I was playing a game today and wanted to irrigate some land on the other side of some hills. There was no way to build farms in such a way as to spread irrigation to where I needed it because of the wierd line of hills. I thought hey maybe a way to make windmills a little more usefull without breaking anything would be to allow them to spread irrigation. Just a thought. I know from reading the various threads there has been discussion about diversifying what people use for improvements.

If they already do this then never mind. I didn't think they did however.

dont know about spreading irrigation, that would require a whole lot of canals up and down the hill, plus alot of arcamedies(sp? the famous science guy) screws.

i do think that they should give +1 health with corn or something though, i know they give plus food, buy if there was anyway to code it i think the health bonus is approriate as its making it easier to store, ship and distribute the most basic foods.

or is this just duplicating a granery? ... ho hum

Hmm...

I tend to be in favor of more things spreading irrigation, yeah, but Windmills?

Uncertain.

Things that currently spread irrigation: Cities, Farms

Things that logically could spread irrigation (but don't): Pastures, Plantations, Watermills, and Water Nodes

It makes sense to dig canals to water your cattle and your exotic plants, and Watermills can easily work as pumping stations. Water Nodes should go one step further, and actually produce Fresh Water in all adjacent squares, owing to their awesome magic.

Windmills, on the other hand, are related to food and farming, but they aren't really related to water and canals... having them spread irrigation would be odd. Useful occaisionally, perhaps, but odd.

Actually if you go to Holland you will note the number of Windmills keepng the countryside dry. Well, maybe not so much anymore they have more efficient ways to do it now but at one time this was true.

I was just throwing out the idea because I never use windmills in FFH and this seemed like a good way to make them useful in this mod. Plus, every once in a while I need to irrigate on the other side of a line of hills and currently there is no way to do it.
