Yes, and was as sorely missed then as it was on Civ VII's release.

In addition, earlier we had the option to rename Leaders which disappeared in Civ VI and shows no sign of returning.

I particularly miss this since many of the Leader graphic depictions are cartoons anyway, and I had too much fun in Civ V and earlier playing as Odius Asparagus the Roman Emperor or Red Orm the Viking/Norse leader or Boris Sharposhnikov, Tsar of All The Slobbovias. Good Times.

Can't remember before it but in Civ IV you could call your own Civ and Leader whatever you wanted.

In Civnet you could design your own leader's appearance - gender, ethnicity and clothes (even hair!) were all interchangeable. Made for some interesting combinations!

Napoleon Blownapart was my go to for the French.

Alas, they don't want us renaming things as someone would get offended. Just don't allow renaming for multiplayer, IMHO.

That would be nice. Age of Wonders 4 has excellent customization and great looking graphics. Would be nice to see that in Civ.

I am all for freedom of speech but do you want someone to name their things with N*zi overtones, for example?

This is probably covered in the EULA, however.
