What does it do? Does it pay the maintence for those buildings in one city or all the cities in your empire. I always thought it pays for all ur cities but i just noticed the pedia doesn't say it applies to the whole empire.

can someone gimme a brief explanation please?

It pays the maintanence costs for all harbors, marketplaces, banks, (and stock exchanges and commercial docks if you have PTW) in all your cities.

I originally thought it was for all cities on the same continent, but I just found out that it is for all cities.

and works for airports too! saves a lot of cash. Some people think its the best, but I tend to ignore it.

Yup, I think it was one of the best.... Saves you a good amount of money on building Harbors, banks, etc. in all of your cities..

I alternate playign styles every game. I go from Warmonger to Peacenik. If im playing super-peacefully as a builder ill always go for it, but if im warmongering i usually dont have much in my cities that is covered by Smith's so i tend to ignore it.

It excellent for non-commercial civs, coz it saves a LOT of money which can be used for research or the military.

Smith's also pays for harbors and airports? Just learned something new.

I love it. Money does not make you happy, only lots of money does!

or for espionage ...

It's the love of my life!!!

Zachriel I disagree about the map size part. If you have a larger map, you may pay more maintenence with more cities, but you earn more money. Proportianally to what you can spend its all basically the same.

The large empires part is true though.

True, but it could be a large map with 200 markets just for the happiness. 150 of those cities might be 80-100% corrupt, making you pay maybe 180gpt for happiness. Smith's Trade would cut that cost.

Smith's is definitely worth it. Its a must have along with Wall Street. In fact I usually beat the daylights out of whatever civ dares to build one of them before me.
