I want to go to the right, with is the space behind the way my character is facing. Then I want to mine the brown space to its right. 2 spaces in the direction behind the way my avvy is facing.

Yes but you get to move faster through that empty space, meaning you can actually go three spaces.

I just keep going right as far as my pickaxe will take me this turn.

UPDATE 10:

Oh no! rhawn has been sprayed by toxic gas! And he has gone blind!
He will be blind until the next turn. You may still put in orders, but you will not be able to see where you are going!
Diamondeye is losing oxygen, if Charles Li does not reach him in 2 turns, he will die!
The Flashlight has 1 more turn left.

UPDATE 11:

Charles Li in an act of bravery throws his rope to diamondeye and saves him before diamond was swallowing dirt! However in the joy of the rescue the rope fell into the hole, and neither man dared venture to go get it.
rhawn recovers from the blinding effects of the toxic gas... however his flashlight has died, and he doesn't have room to carry that piece of junk around.
