Question to all: Could someone tell how to make the Snoopy terrain mod (available as a scenario on PTW) the default option so the GOTM games would automatically use it?
How many people use the Snoopy mod? (which IMHF is great).

As far as I know, it's only non-standard resource icons that are outlawed, because of their possible extra visibility under the fog. The GOTM resource graphics are mapped differently to make it harder to use an unapproved set.

I've seen several players posting Snoopy terrain screenshots in the GOTM forums, so I don't think there's any problem with them. I don't happen to like them myself, but that's a matter of personal preference. I know how I would install them in 1.29 for GOTM, but I don't know the mechanism in a PTW GOTM scenario. It's probably just a case of adding the Snoopy files into the GOTM scenario folder, but leaving the GOTM resources.pcx and resources_shadows.pcx files alone.

You can usaully use good judgement with graphics mods and if you can answer "no" to the question: "Does this graphics mod alter the way the game is played or give me any competitive advantage" then you should feel free to use the graphics mods that make the game pretty, interesting, and fun for you.

Recognize that some terrain packs may alter the contrast with resources and other game features.

The only graphics mods that we have had to exclude are those choices that artificially revealed the resources when they should have been hidden.

We have had no confirmation from Firaxis marketing as to whether these exploits/cheats/bugs have been addressed in a patch or in the upcoming expansion pack release.

It's even simpler than that. The game appears to start with the regular C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Terrain folder (on standard installations, replace with your directory structure if different) and then overlays whatever might be found the CIV3PTW\Art\Terrain folder and then the scenario folder. (or maybe that's the other way around, start at scenario and work backwards, and stop when a file is found)

So for PTW if you follow the 1.29 method of installing a terrain mod like Snoopy, it will affect all 1.29 games and also affect PTW unless superceded further down the tree. I have no idea what the structure is on a Mac, but the same principle should apply, at least for non-PTW.

Word to the wise, always make a backup before changing the art files... :)

Thanks, Dave. I have been unable to check this for a few days so I am reacting late but thanks to all for your thoughts so far.
