So whatcha all doing for BG1

One other trick I thought was kinda clever was that I founded 1 last city at around 1000 A.D. in the middle of a thickly-forested area, and then used it to build the S.S. Life Support by chopping at least 20 forests!!

Heh, we had the exact same idea ;). I did exactly the same and used it to chop for Apollo Program. (it's mentioned in my detailed post about my game). I'm guessing you also used the Great Plains map?

I chopped roughly 25 forests in two turns. Still didn't have enough to finish it instantly due to not realizing the forge bonus would be useless. Probably smart that I used it for the Apollo Program though, as some of those workers were needed for building workshops (for the other parts).

Yeah, I was in Great Plains, so I put the city in the uninhabitted Upper-Left corner (the part with all the mountains). I started in the mid left, but I hadn't built any cities there previously because despite the forests, the area just wasn't worth it.

And now that I think about it, you must have had a lot more than 33 workers in order to chop 25 forests in 2 turns.

Exact same spot.

I started chopping a few turns before I discovered Rocketry ;). I had 40+ workers, although that was overkill.

I do that throughout my games; I build the pyramids like that real early because while I can easily find a city with 6 or so forests that will be good after land development I rarely have one that could build it normally in any sensible time and I'm not one to tie up a city for extended periods just for a wonder. Although a 4 or 5 cow city has some massive production early on. Which is why I can't stop playing great plains.
