When you are experiencing no sound wait for the AI to take it's turn. As it does close your laptop. That should make it go to sleep. Then open it. The game should have freezed. Then start it back up. PLAY.

Some desktops let you press a sleep button on the keyboard or hotkey. When doing this the computer must be focused on the game. NO taskbar. Any other freezing other than telling it to close real fast and messing it up should work. Happy listening,

Any comments. Does this work?

I had all kinds of problems running Civ3 on Vista (Desktop) (including sound, random game crash to desktop, etc) until I put it into XP compatibility mode. That solved it all, it runs fine then. I would not think a Laptop would be any different though, other than the fact that most laptops will not have the performance of a desktop (even if they have a slightly faster CPU/more memory). I would check to see if it is set to XP compatibility mode first, if it is then the problem would/could be elsewhere.

You think that could work. I will try that. The reason it is for laptops because they could go into sleep mode from any program without going to the start menu.
