If someone doesn't care enough about his own post to use proper English for clear communication, why should I care enough about it to slog through it?

Heartily agreed! If one can't express their idea without using vocabulary that is generally offensive to a large segment of society they shouldn't be surprised when people stop listening or ask one to refine their vocabulary.

Worse than vocabularly is lazy spelling. Save all the "U r 2 b L8 4 cL@$$" stuff for your teenybopper friends on Instant Messaging. Seriously. That's not good writing, and if you are hoping to have your ideas considered, you should take the time to write well.

What is good writing? Writing that communicates, not distracts or confuses.

Well some people are just incapable of that kind of writing. Still, a good spell check goes a long way.

Heck, I remember being in 3rd grade and hearing kids who couldn't even read what they wrote. And they're like "wait..." -- it's like, dude, you can't even understand something you wrote yourself? One proofread can make a world of difference.

If they're incapable of something as fundamental as decent writing, what are the odds that they'll have the insight necessary to produce useful suggestions? I'm not sure I buy the "incapable" line anyway. Word usage is a choice, not something imposed from on high. Folks who want to be taken seriously need to make serious choices. My two cents.
