atm i the embarkation bonus is a joke. i played a MP game and an ancient archer dealt 6 damage to my embarked warrior.

it gets even worser if you use ships with their range attack. its atm not a bonus its even a disadvantage if a ship kills you with ONE shot from range (ok it cant move after attack but instead it has to use 2 movement points less to attack you).
 
The AI doesn't know how to press the button B. For a player, you can press B to bombard with a ranged unit, and can target embarked units. If you just try to right click on the target to attack, without pressing B first, the game disallows the attack.

Embarked unit defense doesn't work against ranged attacks, just against ships moving into your tile.

You're right. I think defensive embarkement is bugged. You can see the analysis I made in this thread at the bug reports subforum:

Actually, it's worse to have this "bonus" because the embarked strength is always 5, which means instant death against units with high range attack strength. On the other hand, damage to embarked units without the defensive embarkement promotion is fixed at 4 health points. :rolleyes:

Defensive embarkement only protects your unit against instant sink by triremes. Against caravels and modern naval units, it's the same as not having the promotion, because a ranged attack equally kills you.

I think the fix could be making embarked strenght proportional to the unit's standard strengh and cap the maximum range attack damage at 4 (like that of units without the promotion).

Also, I don't understand the "4 health points" range attack damage rule against embarked units, but this is another issue.
 
The title " embarked units can defend thereself"doesnt mean they will shoot back if someone atackes them...


When a ship enters a embarked units his space it dies instantly... So you can just destroy the enemy invasion force with a ship and give him the move buttom on a embarked unit hex.

The only exepction about this is Askia's units because they get the "embarked units can defend themself" promotion. This means you're embarked units cant be destroyed by sending a ship into their hex... The enemy have to shoot range atacks to the embarked units as result harder to destroy...


Hope this clears the confusion...

Its not only good for warfare but for exploring you're scout can explore the sea embarked without having to die instantly by barbarian galeys...
 
but the problem atm is if you bombard a embarked unit u will always do 4 damage, except to songhai and conquistadors which die INSTANTLY from everything doing more damage then an archer. this should be fixed soon, because it makes a bonus into a disadvantage which cant be intended.

theres one other small problem since the latest patch. early you frigates n SoL went obsolete with electricity when u could upgrade them to destroyers. now they moved the destroyers to combustion (which is ok for me) but the frigates go still obsolote with electricity. should be changed too plz, especially im a big fan of navies :)
 
Antarion is correct, unfortunately. It is insane this bug still remains in the game as if the developers are totally oblivious to it. We need another hotfix for both this and the more serious courthouse bug.
 
I am reminded of the "the sky is falling in" posts on the WoW forums alarmingly too much. I think CiV was better off when it wasn't as patchable.

Songhai's special ability is that his units can defend themselves whilst embarked. So don't attack them until they are on the ground...

Well Actually i thinx the courthouse thing i is actually well balanced makes you thinx twice if you want to puppet or anex the citie... It increase social policie cost but gives you more hapiness so...

If I understand it correctly, the courthouse bug removes the unhappiness of the annexing AND the base -3 happiness for a city.

This means that India, can settle a few cities and then go on a rampage, annexing and building courthouses. They will only ever have -9 happiness from 3 cities even if they have 30 cities.


As far as the embark bug, it looks like a normal embark unit will only ever take 4 points of damage but a embark with defense will suffer the full wrath of the enemy bombardment. Did I get that right?
