ok, here goes. i'm enclosing a save of a recent game i started. i rolled julius and thought cool i'll use the praetorians to get my first monarch win in warlords. needless to say, things didn't turn out that way. some of the things i think i did incorrectly are (1) converting to confucianism for happiness & building temples (2) founding cities just for the sake of founding them (3) not utilizing the praetorians and now it feels like their time has passed (4) not taking advantage of all the food available in rome. any comments and suggestions would be appreciated. thanks for any help, norvin_green

Nice set up

but lagging on tech (and little to trade)

I would be worried that Rome is vulnerable to raiding by agressive civs (it is heavily dependent on sea resources)

not really used to monarch - so don't know if you will able to turn it round (possibly because the AI is poor at sea invasions).

Once I had grown what I have got I would look forward to havinge one more on the right in the jungle - just for the fund of chopping. Otherwise some good land on your Island - defend in depth and build your economy up.

The thing that strikes me with this save is that you have no friends on the map.

A lot of cautious and 1 annoyed. Yes the preat should have been used more, and attack with allies helping you is usually a good strat.

I would say make a clear distinction between who is on your side and who is going to be destroyed/crippled then attack hard getting diplo points for sharing wars where possible. Hopefully you build past your friends with a bigger empire. But not in this game. I think on Monarch it is all over.
