All the sound in the game from the intro onwards play too fast and sound like mickey mouse. anyone else? any solution?

found out on a Steam forum that you need to go to the control panel and change your sound settings (reduce them) to 16 bit CD Quality

Yea I had the same issue trying to run my soundcard as 192khz 32 bit.
Dropping it back to 96Khz 32 bit worked ok for me. 2k is aware of the issue

I have another sound problem that worries me quite a bit - especially, as nobody else seems to be haunted by it:
All my narrator sound tracks (in the intro cinematic, the narration during map generation, all tech quotes and the advisor lady) are reduced in loudness and barely audible at all. Everything else (music, sound effects) works perfectly fine.

I already switched from German to English without effect. Currently, I have dialed down everything but the voices and then increased then speakers up to a very high level. Now I can at least understand what they are saying, but the voices sound hollow and muffled.

Could this be related to the same thing? Are 2K and Firaxis aware of this, too? Or am I indeed the only one with this issue?

My sound comes from the on-board sound chip of my Asus main board (I don't have the type at hand, but will attach it later).
What I have done, though, is to delete the additional sound optimizing/enhancing program that comes with the main board, as it interferes with 'Voice Attack', a program that is essential for other games I play. (The deleted program is really just a mixer, not any sort of necessary driver or another essential software.)

I have the same spoken dialog inaudible issue. Any ideas? Also using on board audio. Rog board.

Well, I figured it out. Wasnt complicated and... You owe me. Go to your audio/playback devices (right click on the speaker) select configure. Right click on the speaker and/or select configure speakers. You'll probably find you are ay 5.1 or 7.1 when you are likely using a stereo setup. Don't ask why this had only been an issue for you/me until tonite. Guess the audio for this game really is that awesome that it actively uses surround mixing. Hope I saved the day.

Hey usmcddv,

thank you so much for this solution. I indeed owe you... big time!

Solving the issue might not have been complicated, but I doubt, I would have found out easily. Maybe, at some point, I would have had a look at my speakers setup, but you definitely saved me a lot of time and misery!
Surround sound!
In what exciting times we live! Who even uses this stuff? :D

Thank you again! :)
