I could never really understood, but civ V and CivBE both gave me headaches until today to get sound on them. Even support e mails couldnt solve it. Never really figure it out.

Hope Civ VI will be different...

If you have sound issues, make sure to update your drivers and if you have a decent sound card, set it to default settings, i.e 44.1kHz sample rate and 16bit resolution. Firaxis games go nanners with other settings.

wow, thanks my friend, thats the first time i had a different answer ill try those 44.1 kHz at 16bit resol.

Also, make sure that all special effects and enhancements are disabled, especially things like extended stereo and simulated surround on Creative cards, not to mention EAX.
Don't get your hopes up, but it's really a pity that you have sound issues. Firaxis's aesthetics is often laughable (BE, C6), but their audio is always admirable. Civ6 is yet another gem in this regard.

EDIT:
If none of the above fix your issues, post your system specs and we'll try to figure something out.

Ok. Thats look like great support. Its really strange that CIV V and BE both had the same problem no other steam game it.

Ill keep you posted here if you dont mind if i cant get sound.

I gotta hear those battleships firing!!!!

Thanks again.

Civ:BE is basically a large mod for Civ5. The same engine, so if one game had an issue, the other one was more than likely to have it too, like in the case of infamous constantly "reloading" map tiles on larger maps.
Civ6 has a brand new engine so let's hope it will be better this time.

Why can the intro on BE had sound and the intro of Civ V on media player had sound also? strange no? nobody ever could explain me this.

Introduction movies, especially 2K and Firaxis logos, are not created with game's engine. They are just movie clips that are played before the actual game launches. When you play them using a 3rd party piece of software, they are no different than any other animation from any other source. When you play them from the game within, audio device may already be in use by the game itself and this may be causing issues. Systems newer than Windows XP have a very lousy approach to sound (caused by DRMs) and special techniques are needed for high quality audio (WASAPI, ASIO etc.). It's causing problems with many configurations, especially when older audio devices are in use.

Ok thanks once again. You a specialized member of the comunity definitly ill be posting if i had problems.

I haven't had any music or speech since Civ3, except for the intro, on any of my systems. Sound effects and ambience have always worked fine.

Never received a reply from support.

Really? That's very strange, though I have an Idea why this could be happening. You had most likely improperly configured sound channels.
Do you have a multi-speaker setup? Something like this happens when your audio device is recognized as Dolby Digital compatible but the game is trying to use hardware support while all you can offer is software emulation. Because of that, some channels do not work or everything is mapped to nowhere. You most likely had speech and music, but they were extremely silent.
It could be fixed by setting in-game sound to default audio source, and your sound device to either "stereo" or to the speaker config that you are using. What's important, headphones are usually recognized by such devices as 2.0/2.1 speaker system, not headphones per se.

You'd need to test a lot of pairs of settings of system speaker configuration in windows and in sound card's driver.

I hope I'm at least reasonably clear. It's 3:30am...
