They didn't stand the "Test of Time". Features from previous games that won't be in Civ7

Although governors are gone, the Army commander has that light blue promotion tree that gives bonuses to a settlement it is in. I think I'm okay with that, but I haven't seen any streamer pick promotions in that tree.

One of them (I forget which one) mentioned getting good results with it but didn't actually show it in their video. It may have been Potato McWhiskey.

No more neighborhood districts and spies making rebels from them.

I will definitely miss National Parks, Seaside Resorts and Water Parks.

No mountain tunnels but we have railroads rhat teleport units.

No dams that prevent flooding (pls correct me if im wrong)

No day/night cycle.

I'm sure a World Congress type mechanic could be good but lord not the way they did it.

I feel like World Congress should be an optional feature, and only in multiplayer games. Then it could maybe be refined to work as intended as a meta layer of strategy.

I also, sadly, feel like natural disasters and climate change fit in this category (and plagues/health). I love all of these concepts, particularly their ability to encourage awareness of these larger systems which humanity has to navigate together; but until some breakthrough can make them fun they just make the game frustrating.

Surprisingly, I think rivers are going to prove to be a bit of a fun-killer in VII unless/until they diversify civs' abilities to compete without rivers.

Things that haven't come back from earlier versions:
  • The slider (tho policy cards serve the same purpose. Instead of putting the slider to 100% science you slot rationalism)
  • Vassal States/Puppet cities/etc
  • Bribing someone to attack (without entering the war yourself)
  • Sneaking a Nuke into a city with a spy. Bribing enemy units with a spy. I sort of miss spies as units...

World Congress is awful in VI. It's good in V, made great with Vox Populi. It shows up way too early in VI, which I think is a problem.

Vox Populi demonstrates the politics of the game through World Congress very well. It also gives an incentive for Vassals because they can help vote for your propositions. You can also buy out other civ's votes. I think it's done really well.
I would also like to see Emergencies as a concept return, because I thought they were mediocre in VI.

I think VII has potential for World Congress... I do want to see it return.
