Is any way that I can win the Space Race before 2050 AD??? Last time I had 6 of 10 components.... Then... BANG! You win by retirement... Damn.

Some help? :)

Libraries, Universities, Marketplaces, Banks, Stock Exchanges, Wonders, Deals with the AI for tech, and reading the War Academy.

These are a few of my favorite things. And they will help you finish the space race before 2000, if not before.

Yes. You can get there with a One City Civ if you really worked hard at it.

I suggest you read one of the 'sucession games' as well. I am playing in a few right now, and I am becoming a much better player for it.

Hmmmph ? :aargh:

You've just got to start earlier. What Kiech said: more improvements to money-gathering, research, and manufacturing output. Pretty much the same formula to winning in conquest, cultural, diplomatic, etc., just slight differences in the order and speed you accomplish your goals.

Gather money, don't research in the modern age, (buy techs) Keep in mind that you should have at least 3 50+shield cities, then build as you get the techs.

OR, keep up with AI until Modern Age (should have TONS of gold by now) and research like crazy for SS techs, build before everyone else

I have done that on regent level games

You can keep up with AI until midway into the Modern Age, but you'll probably be sacrificing certain unit types to do this. You may have to stick to defensive-powered units only, or else beat up only on wimpy civs.

I always seem to be able to at least beat up on the Japanese, who have always been impoverished and stuck on a dinky island, in every game I find myself in with them...

It may be easyer on a harder level because at low levels the AI rechearh is slower (You will out study him, so less chance for trading techs). By the time you can win on regent a space victory is not as hard as on chiefton. Even on a huge map.

Desert-Storm, you're playing on chieftan or warlord right? On those difficulties, the AI civs have penalties to their growth, production, and research. In other words, they research very slow so you can't get many techs by trading with them; you have to do all the work of researching by yourself.

Since you won at 2050, try a game on regent. The AI will research at a good rate, and you can trade your own techs for theirs and speed up the tech pace for everybody. You'll finish the tech tree well before 2050.

To speed up your own research rate:
Build/capture many cities
build roads on every tile a citizen is working
build the forbidden palace as soon as you can
choose republic or democracy as your governement
build libraries and universities
trade your techs for other techs or money

N00b Worlord.

By the Modern era, I have +25,000 Gold, so I can use that to research, but I think that buying tech is better. ;)

If you're under democracy or monarchy, with 25k gold, you could be hurrying production on a lot of helpful city improvements (factories, research labs, hydro plants, etc). If you work at it, you should be able to get space-race in almost any warlord game.
