My first game is as Brazil and... The only Golden Ages I seem to get are from Wonders and Social Policies and spending great artists out of despair. I had the same problem with Persia; it seems I have no idea how to use Golden Age strategies. For most of the game my Happiness is close to zero. Is it really worth stunting growth of cities in the hope of spawning a golden age? It requires way too much happiness it seems. Like, right now I need something like 1500 extra happiness to accumulate... Even at 15 extra happiness (basically wasted growth!) that is going to take 100 turns.

...Do you play on Marathon, perhaps? That amount of golden age happiness requirement makes it sound like you're playing on the speed where getting golden ages is pure hell.

Nope, standard speed. Holy hell I'm on turn 385 or so (out of 500) and it already took like 10-12 hours to make it there. BNW games are LONG, I have no idea how I could remain sane playing on Epic or Marathon. I used to play Epic speed in Civ 4, but Civ 5 takes too much time. I'd rather try different civs and strategies than spend so much time on one game.
