Spearman kills tank

The thing is, spearmen work the best against Modern Armor. Not against ordinary armor. Maybe their spears are made of some sort of a yet-unknown superpowerful metal that could break through armor? Guess we'll never know.

Forget about Spearmen beating Tanks - a Warrior just beat up my Mech. Armor. Seriously.

Damn... and a conscript warrior (how'd that get there?) just killed off 4 of my vet and elite paratroopers

Actually the Eithiopian spearmen did infict some casualties on enemy tanks in the Eoithiopian war against italy, I believe they stuck thir spears into the treads so that the spears would be ground to pieces but the actual spear head would be able to get into the engine and clog the pipes to start fires (those old italian tanks were build for speed not defence)

Most battles against tanks used guns, but the spearmen overwhelmed better equipped troops through sheer numbers a few times.

yeah... it's hard to stay cool with 100 guys with pointy sticks charging you

I always thought that the spearmen got really strong over the ages (what else could you be doing for over athousand years! :-D ) then after they really built up there strength they throw the spear and get a lucky hit right where the driver is.

yeah 3000 years of training and tradition. Genrations of people with one goal to defend their homeland. It could happen, i bet some chinese spears bet some japense tanks. a army of unarmed troops could beat a tank if there was enough of them.

Easy way around this (which I have done) just make the all industrial age units much stronger, the modern age units stonger still, etc. It really works and is much more realistic - an infantry still has the same chance it always had against a tank, but the spearman is miles away. my modent armour has an att of 85 :)

Spearmen have DU tipped-spears which they throw at tanks.

DU (depleted uranium - not fissile) > Armor.

I think that the reason why the spearmen can beat tanks is because the tank drivers underestimate the spearmen. The tank drivers probably unnecesserily weaken their attack giving the spearmen the opportunity to bust into the tank. After that the spearmen take over the tank and use it against it's motherland. Yet they can't use it later.
:spear: :spear: :spear:

I've never had a Spearman beat one of my tanks...however, I've had a Pikeman do so.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky few? (although I don't attack with tanks unless they have all of their hitpoints) and I haven't played civ all that much.

I actually just had an archer attack and kill a tank a few minutes ago, much to my surprise. If I didn't have about 40 squillion tanks watching the escapade, I might've been really annoyed.

How many people have seen a spearman kill a tank. It has happened to me many times. In Civ 4 they should have something that would allow this not to hapeen. The points rule for attack and defense allows for a less realistic game. They should have the point levels alternated per era so Spearman are extreamly underpowered and CANNOT KILL TANKS!!!!!

 The only time I've ever seen a "spear" type unit kill a tank was in my FF mod, when Tanks and Lancers or Heavy Tanks and Dragoons tangled (the Lancer has similar stats to the Guerilla and the Dragoon is similar to the TOW inf), but the mod IS based on FF, where a guy with a ridiculously large sword pwns pretty much anything on the face of the planet...

Other than that, no I haven't ever lost a tank or modern armor to a spearman. I DID once lose a tank or mech inf to an elite Impi, but that was back in the days before I really knew what I was doing...

The only way is the 1% chance that when they throw the spear and hit the exhaust port.

"Red Leader, this is Red 3. I'm going to make a run."

I used cavalry to destroy huge amounts of Korean tanks, it worked. I guess its not very unrealistic, as we had anti-tank rifles. I think.

What is "slightly" less realistic is when modern armor got shot by a longbowman four times and exploded. Imagine that happen in the RL...

"Lord Tarkin, we've analyzed their attack and there is a weakness...."

Yeah, the comp getting incredibly lucky like that is one of the catalysts that led me to start creating my FF mod. I figured if an archer or swordman was going to beat a guy with a freakin' bolt action rifle or worse yet, a tank, then I figured I might as well put the game in a setting where such occurances are the norm, rather than the exception

In my latest game, along with the above mentioned archer blasphamy, I had an incredibly stubborn Carthaginian UU (name slips my mind at the mo...) that actually stopped FOUR Modern Armor in a row without even taking any damage! In it's defense, it was in a size 12 city, on hills, and I was crossing a river, BUT STILL! I had a spare Swordsman lying around that I brought in and he ran over the spearmen with ease.

That was quite annoying. Stupid spearmen.
