Hi all,
I am trying to run Civ4 in a window stretched across two 1680x1050 monitors on Vista 64-bit, but am finding that it won't start in windowed mode with a resolution larger than the (single) primary desktop it's launched from.
Vista doesn't support true "horizontal span" mode -- treating both monitors as a single huge 3360x1050 desktop, but rather as two 1680x1050 desktops side by side. If it did implement the span feature, windows would be maximized to fill both monitors, and the taskbar would stretch across both monitors. Having researched it a fair amount, this seems to be a Vista design flaw (XP handled this properly), not a driver issue or Civ-specific problem.
So my thought was to start Civ4 in windowed mode with a resolution large enough to span both monitors.
I have set FullScreen=ask, ScreenHeight = 1050 and ScreenWidth=3360 in the _Civ4Config INI file. When I start up, I'm correctly prompted for fullscreen or windowed mode, but if I select windowed mode, it starts in 1024x768 resolution. If I change the resolution in the INI file to 1280x1024, it starts with the proper resolution. So it seems that it's reading the file correctly, but won't honor the resolution settings other than for a few select supported resolutions.
Is there any way to get Civ to start in a window one larger than the desktop? Or more generally, for any arbitrarily sized window (something the doesn't conform to a standard desktop size), like 1499x1001 ? Or failing that, be able to drag and resize a Civ4 window once its running?
Thanks.
