I was just messing about in a game I'd allready won, using world builder to see why the AI opponent out teched me.

I dropped in some spies and submarines, and played from a stage I'd saved at, looking at how the AI progressed in its builds and such.

On thing I did notice, is what when you 'steal plans' from a Civ that has a holy city, Any city will do, though Capital and admin centres have greatest chance of success * Star in city name/naming box* you gain a line of sight into all its cities...That's a given fact, but also you gain a LINE OF SIGHT into ALL cities with the religion of the holy city of your target.

It won't show all the units of your 2nd civ, but does show the cities defenders and views of the surrounding land in the fat cross...

This has limited scope for use, if your up against an alliance of one religion, in a continents map game, it can be a easy way to scout out ALL of the continents cities.

2nd thing I noticed, is that submarine can travel under ice...well most of us know that, but I thought, that'd be an ideal place to station a sentry submarine with the sight promotion. Problem is ice flows are limited to the caps, :p , so it has limited use, but you can't be attacked by those AI destroyers, who seem to be able to bee line straight to where your units are, even when you have trouble finding them yourself:crazyeye: ok I meant trailing the AI...ever tried to do it, and not just assume a straight line between A-B, though it allway's is...

:goodjob: Submarines stationed under icecaps/flows, Spies to steal plans of Civ with Majority Religion holy city for line of sight into ALL religions cities.

I knew about the subs but not about the spies and holy cities - useful to know! thanks :D

on a side note - is it just me or is the AI really pants at using spies?? normally my spies have a completely free reign to romp all over an enemies territory and pillage all of their key resources, easy way to hamstring my key opponents...

Turn up the difficulty some. I play on one above average diff, where the AI gets some bonuses and it uses spies quite well. He kept wrecking my aluminium and oil resources (whoever it was) Quite annoying!!!

Cool info though, i didnt know they could go under ice. I have never used spies either in my games.

Does that mean they can go all the way under the ice and out the other side if you have wrap around maps? (i dont)

yup, I'm on Monarch now - bit too easy, think it's time for Emperor :mischief:

Does this still require the state religion the same as the holy city in order to "see" the other cities?

I would assume so, in my 'test'...so to speak.

they both had Hinduism as the state religion.

Played on continents map, 5 religions on my continent, Hinduism and islam were only 2 on other continent. Islam was only spread to 1 or 2 cities, but hinduism was the predominate religion.

For line of sight, Religion MUST be state religion. Free religion, you lose line of sight, and multiple religions/holy cities, you still only get 1 LINE OF SIGHT, being state religion.
