split the OT forum

I propose spliting the OT forum into two: Nonsence (for lack of a better name), Intelegent discution.

the nonsence forum would contain threads like:
What countries are represented here?
What's the coolest attribute of a vehicle?
How did you decide on your forum name?
Your favorite cola?
funny pictures
babe thread

- not that these are bad, just that they are near pointless (exept perhalps the babe thread) and indications of bordom. they are still worth posting on.

the Intelectual discution forum would contain:
Iraqi Weapons Violations
FoxNews comes out of the closet
When Will China Emerge From Communism?
Dictators in general: are they so bad?
Bush and the Stars. A long read but a good one
War thread

No.

Off-Topic is for *all* off-topic discussion. Only the few forums that have been split out (History, Humor, etc.) have needed the extra "room". There is no problem with having light threads interspersed with the heavy ones.

This isn't the first time this has been suggested. It won't be the last. But the fact it hasnt been implemented should tell you something. And yes, I know you didnt' know that. Just saying in my oh-so-special way.

It's amazing the ways people want to create new work for AoA and Lefty.

How is splitting up forums more work for moderators? Is it harder to keep on switching back and forth between forums, or do you think specific forums will encourage more threads, or is it something else?

And what's wrong with getting new moderators? Are the ones that haven't been chosen yet not good enough?

2 per forum works out great (one moderator for the smaller forums). We do not need any more moderators unless LS or AoA request another colluseum mod or a moderator quits.

Yeah, but when the idea of splitting up a forum (usually the OT forum) comes up, one of the counter-points brought up is always "That'll be even more work for the moderators." I've always wondered why it would be more work, and if so, why more moderators couldn't be recruited.

You have an additional "pointless poll/thread" forum, you have more posters natually taking it upon themselves to make more pointless and useless things to fill it with. People who wouldn't have thought to post a useless thing in Off Topic before because of its (rightfully so) strict policy wouldn't feel the inhibition they so desperately need and that some people so desperately lack.

Id actually stay away from a serious forum, that is taking the volitile elements from the OT and concentrating them to much much more then 1.00 mol/L, I mean...

I do not meen to be persistant, but this problem seems to be eliminated if you make the Intelegent a sub forum of OT. therby the only problem (thus far presented) is the objection of moderators to have to monitor more rooms?(not that that is nessisarily a bad reason -- perhalps it is; they're incharge)

What would go in off-topic if you had an intelligent forum splintered off from it? Nonsense, I'm thinking.


If a suggestion like this was implemented, eventually all of off-topic would be subdivided until it wouldn't make sense to have an off-topic forum at all.
