Spy!!!

You wouldn't be referring to Civ3 would you?

If so,I want my camels back also ;)

That's one of the things I don't like with Civ3 : you don't have spies any more.
But, this cultural influence idea is nice.
Regarding workers, I still prefer the CTP concept of civil works (sorry if that's not the exact translation for the matter).
It may be off topic, but I'd say (after having played several games) that you cannot really compare Civ III against Civ II after all...

I agree.Civ2 is fun.Civ3 is something else ;)

Don't even mention public works ;).Civ3 really did make a mess of it though with workers that very often have nothing to do.

You can compare them as they both go under the name of Civilization.1 was a step forward. One was a step back.I'll let you decide which is which.

Yes there are some good things introduced in Civ3 but culture is not one of them(IMO).Culture flips and victories are just silly.I do like strategic resources very much and unit capturing.I would like the bombard feature but it is kinda useless.

Civ3 is not even installed here right now.No plans to either..For me,it was a big let down.

Civ3 was a big letdown for me, too. I was expecting an improved, updated version of civ2 to continue in the civ tradition. And thats not what civ3 is!!! I still have it installed, but only because I cannot be bothered to uninstall it. (You gotta love these 10 GB+ hardrives.) :)

All I can do is echo what's already been said; After having played so many games of Civilization 2 and expecting an updated sequel, I was let down with a totally new game... I'm sure I'd love Civilization 3 if I'd never played the prequels ;) But yes, Spies and Caravans are somewhat amiss in this game - which flies right into the face of realism AFAIC.

I'm planning to make a Civ2 Mod for Civ3.

It will sort of be a combo, but it has to fit the editor

I was going to go get Civ3. I thought that the idea of cities whose resource areas grow with the size and depth of the culture sounded pretty cool. It certainly would reflect reality...

I lack the replayability in civ3 that was found in civ2. I wasn't able to play it over and over again.:)

You can establish an embassy, and from that one you can pay money for propaganda in the AI's cities, you can steal techs from there. Trade is with resources and luxuries that are found on the map and that you can work.

The difference is that you don't have the units: diplomat, spy, caravan or freights, because trade and espionage are handled from a specific window instead. Hope that explains it:)

Actually, I don't mind the abstract way of dealing with espionage in Civ3 (I love the new trade system). My problem is that it doesn't work (or rarely works)

I used spies more often in SMAC (Probe Teams)

But they were nice, and have nestalgic value

Oh yes espionage is still in Civ3 but the cost of actions effectively removed it from play.AND,most of the time(for me anyways) actions would fail, but still cost a small fortune

On top of that,I have to build a small wonder to get advanced espionage options.

Smash and Louis XXIV, be happy : even when I pay the maximum (for a greater chance of success), espionage in Civ 3 never succeeded !

Could this be Sid's way of telling us the spy in civ2 is too powerful? :p

Maybe, but the spy is the funnest unit to work with in the game.I don't understand how removing one of the funnest parts of a game can be good
