I haven't heard or seen anything concerning the progress of the next opus from Lucasfilm LTD (although I haven't gone out of my way to do so either). Do any of you have any new info?

Why??? WHY. Only because STar Wars is cool.

I am looking forward to it. I just hope lucas stops worrying about his friggin money and worries about putting out a good movie instead. That catering to kids crap with episode one was intolerable.

Hey corn, don't you like star trek (or is that someone else)? Star Wars is 10x cooler than star trek. So put that in your pipe and smoke it

Star Trek Rules.
Star Wars Sucks.

And you want to know why??????

Star Wars - 4 Movies (1 Planned)
Star Trek - 9 Movies (1 Planned) and 5 TV series.

There you have it.......twice as many movies and 5 TV series, Star Trek is obviously more popular!!!!

Plus it's better!!! Yeah!!!

Sorry but anything that is even remotely related to William Shatner is instantly un-cool.

What good are nine movies and 5 series if they all blow anyway?

The only one worth a crap was the original series. After that, all downhill.

They don't blow.

If it blew, there would have been so many!!!!!! Oh...there was actually 6 series. I forgot the Animated series in the 70's.

My point is, Star Trek is much more popular than Star Wars!! It also has a larger following.

Some good shows get cancelled within the first 2 years. AKA, Family Guy. But Star Trek has continued for almost 40 years!!! You can't dis that.

The problem with ST is there are too many episodes. It must be annoying each time to read "will Kirk marry Spock? You'll see that in the next episode..."

Ok, I'm exagerating but that's the way for all the series... ST is not as long as the little cottage in the meadow but well, it's not far behind

quality over quanity there corn :_)

sw has 4 movies and 1 almost done and the other done in a few years..

the first 3 movies totaly rocked..

however.. the 4th.. really sucked :_(

almost half the ST movies really sucked *cough.. the 1,5!!!!!, 7,9 cough*

and VOY and most of DS9 are totaly garbage writen my monkeys.. not real human beings

and i fear the new seris is going to suck :_(

i fear gene's going to come crawling out of the grave and rip rick's head off for totaly distroying ST.... when HE died.. most of ST died with it..

which one is more popular.. i don't see people sitting in line for (MONTHS) to see some crummy ST movie like inserection.. which i wondered why the hell i went to the movie theater to watch anyway..

even if the phantom menence SUCKED a lot.. i still liked it ..

i know for a fact online there is a much more SW popularity than ST.. i'm currently working on a major fan film project for star trek *shameless plug*
http://www.3dgladiators.com/forums/

down at the bottem.. star trek: Rihannsu
“Mnhei’sahe”

.. the only other really good fan films are star wrek (and that's not even in engish!) and hidden frontier..

when it comes to SW fan films.. there coming out like crazy.. just visit some place like www.theforce.net/theater and a few other fan film places i can't remember right now.. tales of the holocron would be another..

there's also more SW books than ST books (even if i dont' consdier any of the books remotly cannon)

as far as i'm considered i love them both

Well Fish....No offence but that's your opinion.

The only Star Trek movie (in my mind) that sucked was 9. And that's because it was like one long episode. 5 was lame and 1 was kind of slow, but still good. 7 ruled!! Anyway......also in my opinion all the Star Wars movies blow. Space Balls was good, but Star Wars sucks.

But the point I'm trying to make is that ST is more popular that SW. There has been more ST stuff done. (Movies, TV Series) If SW was better we would expect to see more SW stuff, right??? RIGHT!!!

I'll admit that the first few seasons of DS9 were bland but it got really good when the Dominion War started. And for Voyager, well they had a few bad episodes too, but over all it was a good series.

I can't comment on the new Star Trek series because it's not out yet, but I've read the plot....and I think it's going to be really good.

SW is popular.. just because there are only a few movies doesn't make it not popular..

there are more SW books than ST.. there are FAR more fan films (COUGH COUGH COUGH.. "FAN FILMS!!") than ST.. there are just abuot as many SW conventions as ST (i don't go to conventions though)

plus lucas doesn't want to do a TV seris.. SW (not to mention it's NOT SCI FI.. it's sci fi/fantasy.. big difference) is lucas wants to tell a story.. all the movies go together and such.. a ST TV probly wouldn't make sense anyway..

IMO comparing SW to ST is like comparing apples to oranges. ST ain't even in the same ball park, it ain't in the same league, it ain't even the same fu**in sport!!! The wrath of Kahn was the only good ST project, and that still doesn't come close to any of the SW products.

No, on the contrary it contributed to resurrect sci-fi. Remember: in 1977, The Fox didn't believe in sci-fi films anymore and that's why they didn't give G. Lucas a lot of money. And worse, they only gave him the rights on merchandising, and not on the film. When Ep IV was released, you know what happened. And the secondary products from SW were even more profitable than the film itself.
And then people were interested again in making sci-fi films.

It's like Bruce Lee. He made the karate movies become popular.

Anyway, my other favorite sci-fi film is Blade Runner.

Blade Runner was a good a sci-fi film. But in its way, it was exception in a decade dominated by the Star Wars phenemenom (in part, because it was based upon a thoughtful sci-fi novella). And to that degree, you are right in that it brougth back the "sci-fi" film.

I spoke in frustration. The Star Wars saga spawned far too many knock-offs by Hollywood moneymakers attempting to score big bucks on capitalizing on the Star Wars phenomenon; and, in that sense, Star Wars did set back sci-fi films ... and good sci-fi films are rare enough to begin with.

And yet, Star Wars is not science fiction; nor fantasy. ... It definitely borrows all too much from the fantasy genre in terms of motifs, archetypes, plot line, etc. And yet, it never demonstrated that technical speculation, savvy, and moral dilemmas over technology whereby it can be properly considered sci-fi (for example, Han Solo in the original SW claiming he could do the run to planet X in ten parasecs). I do not know about the books: but Star Wars ain't good sci-fi; and it sure as hell ain't fantasy. It belongs to a very distinctive genre, one that it revived, and in doing so overwhelmed proper "Sci-Fi." ...

As for SW vs. ST - which seems to be the dominant debate in this thread: I've met at least one person who loves them both; on the other hand, of the Star Trek movies, only half are worth multiple viewings ... damned those imbeciles who wrote the screenplays. But in the end, comparing Star Wars with Star Trek is like comparing apples and oranges. ... if only for the fact that Star Trek was never about science fiction; and Star Wars never claimed to be science fiction.

And by the way, Lucas's THX 1138 is a minor film masterpiece that is true to the Sci-Fi genre; it belongs in any good video library of science fiction.
