Showing my age here but are there any 80s/90s Starflight fans here? I loved these games as a kid.

Cool to see this 30yr old dead franchise coming back to life! Not sure if it'll get funded though as so many years have passed! Plus a lot of people have never heard of Fig.

I was a big fan of Starflight 1. The ability to land anywhere on any planet was amazing. It's downside was that it was so HUGE. It took forever to play.

When Starflight 2 came out, I started playing, but I veered away from immersing myself in such a "time suck"

A few years ago, I bought them both from GOG but I'm still reluctant to play. :scared:

I LOVE Starflight. I had it on Sega Genesis and played through multiple times... I felt like I was Captain of the Enterprise playing that game

I'll second @Zkribbler 's observation that being able to land on any planet and explore the ENTIRE surface was just mind-blowing

I went onto their website to discover that they are crowd funding. They started near the end of last month and go to the end of this month. They've received pledges of just less than half of the $800,000 they're seeking.

I've never crowd funded. I don't know if I will this time.

Ahh cool.. I'm glad to see I'm not the only Starflight fan in this Civ community! :)

Haha yeah there were 811 planets in SF1.. huge galaxy, all on a couple of little 5 1/4 inch floppies haha. Thankfully the Genesis version came with a cool picture filled walkthrough in the manual. Without that I would have been totally lost as a kid too! I havent fully played SF2 still but when I do I'll probably use a walkthrough as I lack the free time to get lost in the galaxy sadly haha.

Yeah that's why I thought I'd better post in some off topic forums I know, as I'm getting worried about that slow moving SF3 funds total.. time is running out!!! They're just not getting enough media attention. PC Gamer seems to be the only big site that's covered them (did an interview with Greg Johnson). Unlike Kickstarter, Fig supports deadline extensions so hopefully they consider it as the money is coming in but just not that fast. SF fans are busy people in their 30s, 40s & 50s, not kids on the net all the time.

Well now that I know there's a few fellow SF fans here feel free to come join the Starflight Fan page on fb guys as we're covering the official sequel, doing videos of old rarely seen SF fan games and if that's not enough we're supporting a rather talented ex-bethesda employee working on a fan remake of Starflight 1 too!! His work looks amazing!

How come Off Topic has become the go to subsection for everything expect civ related threads? There is an Other Games sub section right above it you had to scroll past it to get here. And dont start with the but there is no one in there, of they are not you are not posting content there so why should they.

Mods can we move this thread.

Ermm actually I didn't see it. Scanned through the whole list of forums here beforehand and must have missed it (there's kind of a lot here lol). Made an honest mistake, but nah sure you get all paranoid and grumpy about it lol!

I just had another look and yup I can see the other games forum now but I can see why it's easily missed as it's buried in the middle of other dedicated game forums that the masses aren't going to care about. Is there a way to bump it to the top of the other games section list? Would make more sense to have the general 'all other games' forum at the top or even at the bottom of the 'other games' section bookending the specific dedicated other game forums (mafia & never ending etc) that most aren't interested in and will therefore skim over. Judging by the lack of activity here I'd say that's the reason why although it actually doesn't look as dead as Michkow suggests lol.

If you are asking to have the forum subcategory moved up the list in "Other Games" forum, may I suggest contacting the moderator for this forum, @ls612 or perhaps an Admin such as @leif erikson or @Browd They may be able to help with your request. :)

Also, please don't quote moderator text. Thank you.

Also note that I read this forum more thoroughly than I read OT so PMing me is the way to bring something to my attention.

Don't post in the wrong forum, don't quote the moderators, don't post suggestions on the forum & PM instead.. Jeez I'm just stumbling over all the rules aren't I lol. Good thing I normally just talk about Civ in the Civ forums lol.

Oh well anyway it looks like it was all for nothing sadly. Just over a day to go and the Starflight 3 crowdfund is barely over halfway. 30 years waiting for a sequel and its fails due to not enough media attention. So many thousands of SF fans out there (SF1 was apparently the first ever game to go platinum with 1mil sales back in the 80s) that never got to hear about this. Such a shame!

But there's still hope as Greg & Anthony said in a recent podcast that they'll look at improving the demo and may try a crowdfund again in the future or secure a publisher. If you're a big Starflight fan and you come across this thread long after it's too late, come join the starflight facebook group and they'll let you know the next time anything happens with SF3 (if there's a next time *sigh* ) plus as previously mentioned the group is following a rather impressive Starflight 1 remake from a ex-bethesda employee so all is not lost for us old SF fans!
