I turned on my computer eveything was going normaly, waiting, everythin was fine exept no icons  I right clicked to see what, if anything had stoped responding. the only thing it showed was my virus program.(AVG) there was no explorer or systray. (or anything else fo that matter.
I shut down from ctrl/alt/del and the same thing happened. I then tried to reboot with an improper shut down to see if scan disc would find any errors, nothing. I then tried safe mode..........same thing
I've changed boot harddrive in my bios to this one, to try and see if I can fix the main hard drive. Any suggestions? this hard drive is only a 4 gig backup so I'd like my new one back. :(

what OS are you running? If it's W2K or XP you might try starting the explorer manually: ctrl-alt-delete, task-manager, new task, type explorer and hit enter; had this problem once, and this worked

Windows Me, and it's an upgrade disk. My original windows 98 cd is a reinstaller for my emachine, that was recycled into my current monstrocity  So I can't reformat either :( I just copied my old harddrive, reran the ME update and installed new drivers for MB and such. :)

I'm a cheater,
....but I don't eat pumkins :ack:

Back when I modded this forum, there was no such thing as an unanswered question ;)

Unless I was busy that is ;)

I don't like ME that much, I would switch to 2000 or XP if you can. But if you don't have many problems with ME then you could just stick w/it.

If I'd have to choose I'd stick with that 98 instead of "upgrading" it to ME.

I've heard that. I went ahead and purchaced the ME upgrade when I had some graphic problems. I think it was the intro movie to CTP2 that finally did it for me. I heard sounds but saw no movie. I had a few extra dollars, not enough fo a full OS disc, and so I bought ME. I've never had any probblems out of it and it has served us well........untill now ;) but I thnk I fixed it. I installed Fix-it utilities and ran the whole kit.....and the kaboodle:)
