status bar not visible

I don't think this is a bug so this may not be the best place to post this. Please move it if there is a better place.

I have been playing civ5 without problems. But my status bar just disappeared and I cannot find a way to get it back. That is the one that shows the income and happiness, etc. I have restarted the game, searched all of the options. Can't find a way to cause it to show up again.

Suggestions?

If anyone else has this problem the solution for me turned out to be to go into the city management by double clicking on a city and then buy a tile. That caused the status bar to come back and stay.
