Steam Offline Mode

Hi, long time lurker.

Please direct me if this has been answered.

So, I have problems with my Internet service from Comcast (Philadelphia, PA, USA; Western Suburbs).

Typically, I leave Stem "online."

With the ever occurring instances of disconnection by Comcast, I would still like to play CiV G/K offline.

When I click in the V logo to play, I get the Steam warning message to "retry connection" or play "offline."

That should be easy enough, but when I click "start in offline mode," I get the "updating Steam" message, then I'm aloud to click "retry connection" or "Start in offline mode."

I click on the latter, have a quick message I can't read, and end up at "steam error could not connect to network."

How do I play "offline" when I lose my connection to the net?

Correction: the quick message I can't read comes after the one that says: "steam error could not connect."

From my experience, you have to have a connection to go offline. You will also want to turn of any auto connect features that will cause steam to go online for any game in steam. Once all of these are turned off, then exit steam via the go offline button. Do not just exit steam. To keep it safe, unhook your computer from any online connectivity. Steam will then go into offline mode when you restart it. I have seen though that sometimes if your computer is online when you reboot steam to offline, that steam will try to figure out why your computer is online, but you are booting in offline mode. Some say that it does not nor should not cause a problem.

Thanks for the advice it has been pretty frustrating that I'm not able to play when I have time to due to my service provider.

Of course, it would be just as nice if Steam actually allowed me to play offline, when I am offline, without the hassle.
