I have only purchased one game off steam before CIV VI so I'm curious to see if this has happened to anyone else. I purchased CIV VI vanilla version. I did not want the Aztec DLC early if I was going to get it anyway 90 days later. I played for about 5 hours total and went away for the rest of the weekend. Last night I go to fire it up and I have access to the Aztec DLC now. I did not get anything from Steam thanking me for any additional purchase. Did I just get lucky?

It sounds like you pre-ordered, in which case you got the free Aztec DLC automatically (that's what the pre-order bonus was). Free means free-- there was no additional purchase.
