Still can't play LAN even with latest patch

I'm one of the unfortunate people who get the three error messages when attempting to join or create LAN games. The one's about network sockets, and not being able to start the messaging engine.

Has anyone else found any sort of solution to this? It's astounding that it's STILL broken, and I'm really frustrated.

This may be a stupid question but: Does your LAN work with other games or have you only tried with this one?
