Still having problems

did what ya said. Got a CTD.

confused

Is there some kind of IRQ problem? Doesn't appear so...

Possible.

Looks like a compound problem.
One problem down maybee.

CTD

When do you get CTD inside game or does it CTD before the menur comes up.

If all you are getting now is a ctd, then it could be some outside source like anti virus that could be cuasing that.

If AV (norton can crash this game even when it is not listed in startup) is on then turn it off. All the way off. That includes all the av services that are running too.

of course that is assuming you now only get a CTD.

If that doesnt work then use system info from programs/accesories/system tools

and post up your IRQ settings.

The crashes I get are always after I have been playing for 10 -15 minutes. My AV is AVG Free... But again.. I get BSOD, restart system, freeze and CTD

The All In Wonder card is a video in card. It allows me to have Svideo, RCA, and coaxe into my computer. That card is still in my computer

all in wonder card is PCI, however it is a video capture card... it does not play outgoing video.. the 6600 replaced an ATI video card. I uninstalled all of the software, drivers, and stuff associated with the old card before I installed the new one

ok a few things here.

The old drivers are ghosting in the background and need to be cleaned off using ati driver cleaner.

But that is just part of the problem.

Either you have a bad card or this funky set up you have is cuasing it to return these errors. My money is on the funky set up.

Windows normally installs the main graphics card to 16 and it is now occupied by an ati aiw in card.

Not good.

What to do What to do.

No simple solution here.

Download ati driver cleaner from ati web site. dont run it.

Uninstall the aiw card and the 6600gt wait to turn off the machine untill you do both.

Remove the aiw card and verify that there is no pci card in the slot next to the 6600gt.

Boot into safe and dont let MS add your hardware. When in safe run ati driver cleaner and reboot into regular.

Once in normal mode let windows auto detect the 6600 gt.

follow reboot instructions.

Now it should be on irq 16 and in range.

This will kill 2 birds with one stone. If your card is now working, then you dont have a bad card. If it is, well it is more than likely a bad card.

Anyways thats me story and im stiking to it.

PS. if the card works doing that, you can always try to put the aiw card back in. It should now find its way to a different IRQ. Still might cuase a conflict tho.

I will tackle this when I get home from work. I will let you know who it works. It's gonna be FUN!

LOL! :D

You are as sick as me!;) ;) ;)

Really sorry for getting in the middle of your discussion here but i have a quick question, and it's hard to find people that know things.
My computer is an xp and it only has about 215-250 MB RAM on it and i cant play the game on maps larger than small, it just starts loading, says it's finished, then nothing happens. Although I can play on small maps (with a bunch of lag).
Could this just be because i dont have enough memory??? yes or no would be fine

goonie61

if you have 215-250 Mb RAM its sounds as though you may have integrated graphics - which would also cause problems - you need a video card, as well as 512Mb RAMif running XP.

Hardware requirements are below
http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_msr.htm

If you post your dxdiag we can check it for you re hardware spec

Regards
Zy

This is my dxdiag, I HAVE NOT INSTALLED CIV 4 (i uninstalled it after i got tired of small maps), thats probably important sorry. The thing is i might be able to get 250MB RAM from my school, but i dont think im supposed to:)

OH noo! The thread has been hijacked.)

Sounds like it! Didn't have a chance to delve into my computer last night... will give an answer this evening as to whether it worked or not!

Well....

Neon Deon, I tried the whole delving deep into my computer and pulling stuff out and uninstalling and all that jazz.

MY COMPUTER EXPLODED

Not really... but Civ does not work. I'm now only craching to BSOD. The last error had something to do with a USB device... I did not have one thing plugged into any of my USB ports.

I think I am going to try reinstalling XP. I think I will install it with the MOBO and video card only first. I think then I should put the rest of my pci and USB devices on and then add the all in wonder card.

Ya think there is something I can do before doing this?

Oh yes.. the 6600 card is the only video card I have installed... the AIW card is sitting on my synth next to me and I have no onboard video

bsod now what did it say?

Did the card find its way to irq 16?

And did you check the bios settings to see if the irq set by windows is the irq listed for primary graphics card?

post the new irq set plus another diag if you can.

Interestingly enough.. there now is no IRQ16... and in my bios it does not list the IRQ for the primary graphics card... interesting...
