Welcome to story Minion NES 2: Bigger, Better, Betterer. As some of you know, I've put a lot of time into making this NES comprehensive yet enjoyable, so I hope this will be a success. I'm determined to make it such, taking all the necessary precautions, such as not accidentally deleting the player stats

The map is bigger, and there are a hellova lot more nations, but the rules are a lot simpler. I reccomend you browse through the rules quickly to see what's different.

Nation

Last time I counted I have already placed 87 npc civilizations on the map, and this is without the Americas. Unless you have a really good civilization I have missed, you're not allowed to start a new one. Instead you are to pick one of the 88 civs that are already available. Really it's more then enough choices. I'd encourage you to try civs in places of the world you normally don't play. If you'd still like to make a new civ or replace an existing one, contact me.

Ruler

The ruler is like the nation; already given to you. However if you want to change it to something you'd like more, be my guest. But who wouldn't want to be Sultan Barghash?

Goverment

You can choose whatever you want as long as it's reasonable for the times. For example, no democracy or communism in 3000 B.C. Other than that, feel free to do as you wish.

Capital

You begin with the historical capital of the civilization you started as. As time goes on however, you can switch your capital, but be sure not to do it at a bad time. You can build cities as well, which will slow down enemy forces when they invade your country. If you have no cities, you're more suspect to losing half your country from a barbarian invasion, whereas if you had a city the barbarian horde would have to slow down, giving you time to push them out.

Religion

Same situation as with goverments. You have to be careful when switching it and you were given my best guess of what the civ had at 4000 B.C. Please don't change religions if you're not sure without asking me first.

Economy

Economy is very simple. It increases by way of a numerical system. You start out with 3, and every time you say to increase it, it's raised by 1. If possible, state how you want to increase it.

Culture

Culture depends on how much you write. It has an impact on how npc nations deal with you and respect you. This is how it goes:

No orders = 0
Minnimal Orders = 1
Orders and Story = 2
Orders and Long Story =3

If it's truly deserving, I'll give you 4.

Age

You will advance in ages depending on how good your culture is and how much you research and play the game and all sorts of various intangibles. Greater ages will give you more things to do and different ways to play the game. By this I mean mine-fields in the modern age, easier wonder building in the ancient age, great exploration in the imperalist age, and of course the basic advancement in military technology.

Bronze Age - Nothing special. Everyone begins here
Iron Age -
Ancient Age -
Empire Age -
Monotheistic Age -
Medieval Age -
Gunpowder Age -
Imperialist Age -
Classical Age -
Industrial Age -
Electric Age -
Modern Age -
Information Age -

Military

Pretty simple. The 3 branches are Army, Navy, and Air Force. You only begin with the first 2. To increase them a certain amount costs 1 economy level. As we start in the bronze age, the typical soldier is the spearmen. Other types of soldiers available include archers, slingers, javelin throwers, and the like. As far as navy goes, you have galleys, with triemes coming in the iron age.

And the two things that don't appear on your stats.

Wonder

Start one any time you like. Keep them reasonable. How long they take depend on the age and overall situation you're in.

Trade

Trade costs 3 economy levels to start, and gives you an economy level every 3 turns. You cannot have more than 3 trade routes. In special cases of very profitable trade over a certain period of time, you could gain 2 economy levels for a trade route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: 80 something nations? Isn't that a bit too much for the human player?
A: Nope. In most combat instances, human players have a distinct advantage over the AI. However, if you're facing a superior npc then this won't make too much of a difference.

Q: How do I build cities, and what do they do?
A: Cities cost absolutely nothing. You are free to place them wherever you want at whatever time. The main advantage of cities is that they'll slow down enemy troops. For example, if an enemy rushes into a part of your country that has no cities there will be no concentration of defense to slow them down. If there is a city, the enemy will have to slow down around that city, because the area will be much better defended. On the other hand, cities have some disadvantages. Building too many of them too close to each other may cause problems with overcrowding and general unrest.

Q: How do I build roads, and what do they do?
A: Roads are like cities, absolutely free. Their primary purpose is connecting cities, but as the game goes on we shall probably see some connecting various nations as well (sorts of highways). The advantage is the much faster movement of troops in regions with roads. Also, if you're connected to distant countries via road, it'll be a lot easier to start trade. There are disadvantages though. The better movement will work for the enemy too (although you can stop this by say, bombarding the road or setting up traps and what/not). Worse yet is if an enemy disconnects a road between two important parts of your coutnry.

A great wind came off the waves of the sea. A gust that not only ruffled the clothes of the weary villagers, it knocked pots and such down. They were standing around a small podium. On that podium stood the great and wise Caeser Espacia. His dominion that of Rome, his subjects, though numerous, less than what the land could support. Before much was wasted to foolish ruler's ideas and quarrelling, but now under the Caeser's lead and his persuasive words the city of Rome could finally expand into the fertile land that surrounds it.

The Romans were very militant, offering protection and prosperity if they joined them or death if they resist them. Already all men in the Roman army were masters of the bow (in addition to knoing to fight with a spear) and spent time practicing everyday. The formations of Rome used intimidation as a major weapon. They were large and impressive, not welcomed by any opposition. They did their job and did their job well. This was the way of the Roman Legion.

Already the Emporer set out to improve the might of his armies. He started a school for teaching the art of war and techiques in fighting. It was called the Roman Miliary Academy. It was going to serve to make the Roman Legions respected and feared by all.

Grow infrastructure and building in and around Rome (increase economy)

Brunei

For years the tribes of Brunei had wandered through the jungles, clearings, and harsh natural terrain of the great island. They hunted what wild animals they could, fished when the time was right, and forraged for berries in the bushes. But over time, this changed. Under a man named Bolkiah, the Brunei people decided to stop their wandering and try to forge a livelyhood by staying in one place. This place they called Bandar Seri Begawan, after an elder among them. They hastily made a palliside to protect them from the jungle, assembled houses out of what materials they could find, and those who were strong enough helped clear the immediate jungle around them. A path was made to the ocean, where a few fishery dwellings were made, while grain and rice fields were set up where space allowed. For several weeks, the people set up their homes and expanded the city as more and more people joined. There were now several hundred people in the massive metropolis. To better orginize the city and help it's populace, the people elected Bolkiah as Chiefatin. They decided to call themselves the Chiefdom of Brunei, and put their trust in Bolkiah, the first chief of the Brunei nation.

Chieftain Mieszko I of the Piast clan united the Polish clans under his rule in the town of Poznan. After a month, he consolidated his power and reined in the most powerful of his potential rivals. He declared the beginning of the "Polish Imperium" and declared himself the first Emperor, Emperor Mieszko I of the Piast Dynasty. The Poznan High Council of Elders unanimously approved of him and the Piast clan as the new dynasty that would rule the Polish nation to might and victory. The Emperor was given complete control over everything, although he still consulted with the Elders for some guidance at times. The people believed that whomever was Emperor was blessed by the great Slavic gods and goddesses (I don't know the names of any Slavic Mythology gods, so...) and that if the deities did not approve of the holder of the imperial throne, they would slay him immediately.

Emperor Mieszko I decided that the economy of his new dominion was insufficient and that soon even his own Imperial family would be begging on the streets of Poznan. The town, being in its formative stages, lacked even a small marketplace where the peoples could congregate to barter and exchange goods. Instead, they all made separate arrangements in isolated areas, and these arrangements were often fruitless as little children playing on the streets would steal the possessions of the traders. A central, organized marketplace would allow for some security since the people would all be in one big place instead of isolated areas on the outskirts of the city, where it was not uncommon to be attacked not just by playful children, but by violent thieves.

The economy was not the only thing that troubled Mieszko. When he got on the roof of his palace (actually a wooden shack except bigger; to be improved and made glamorous and fancy and non-wooden later on), he could see the minimal extent of the Polish Imperium. While the town of Poznan was basking in the sunlight of civilization, the fields and woods and rivers outside were plunged into the darkness of thievery and barbarism. Saddened, he prayed to the gods and in his dream, he had a vision. The Goddess of Nature and the God of War told him to head north first, then south, and then whichever way he or his successors would decide. In the morning, he reported this to the High Council of Elders and ordered his army to march north and conquer the uncivilized lands that lay north of Poznan.

Orders
Change Government to Despotism.
Increase economy by building the big marketplace in Poznan.
Have 800 soldiers march north to conquer the lands, crushing any and all resistance to the might of Poland :D .

The Mauryas had built the city of Pataliputra near the River Ganges in northern India. Their King Chandragupta was a great leader and the first thing he ordered was to build the Sanchi, a great temple with tales of the Buddha's past and present lives, and with anecdotes from the subsequent history of Buddhism carved in. This should set a Landmark in India and the people should see the glory of the Mauryan Empire! This would attract more soldiers to gather around their leader and people from all around the country will come to Pataliputra to trade with each other.
However Chandragupta realized that he had to do something about the way people lived. If you wanted a pig for example, you had to find a farmer in a village and get it! That was not acceptable. The King decided to build a merketplace in the center of the city, where the farmers could trade their goods. Some soldiers were watching this and ensured that anybody could cheat here.

Babylon was born out of the fray of war between the clans of the region. The Clan of Hammurabi rose to power when the dust settled and established a Civilization in the midst of many barbarian tribes. Under King Hammurabi's leadership, Babylon was first to farm the rich lands on the shores of the Euphrates. The river yielded food and wealth for the Empire, and soon men from the pathetic barbarian nations would come and beg for food for their starving, stupid peoples in the desert. Babylon was under Hammurabi's wise guidance, and was destined to become a Great Empire. Surprisingly though, Babylon cannot do it alone. The barbarians may be stupid and weak, but there are too many of them to take on alone. Babylon needed allies. She looked to the north and south. She found Sumer and Assyria. They were slightly less stupid than the other nations, and they had rudimentary military tactics. Babylon sent a delegate to these nations, asking them to fight alongside the Babylonian banner in war, and trade with them in peace. Hopefully, the tribes would accept. Meanwhile, there were still untamed lands to the north. Hammurabi sent setters and explorers to tame the wild lands and expand the Empire's borders.

- Expand north
- Offer alliances to Sumer and Assyria
- Build farms to grow food
- Trade with other nations to gain wealth and grow the economy

Nation: Japan
Ruler: Shogun Yamato
Goverment: Despotism
Capital: Kyoto
Religion: Asiatic Animism
Economy: 3
Culture: 5
Age: Bronze Age
Army: 1000 men
Navy: none

A chill wind blew through the village of Kyoto. Outside his home, the only stone structure in the city, the Shogun stood, watching the cherry blossoms bloom on his tree. A small blossom blew off a branch and landed at his feet. Yamato bent and picked it up. He examined it for a moment silently, contemplating as he took in the beauty of the flower. "Such beauty resides within this village. Such delicate and fine flowers as this blossom, sitting in their tree, unaware of what goes on around them. But the tribes of the north and south care not for such beauty. They would destroy it with this village. They would burn this tree and its blossoms along with the homes and crops of this town. That cannot be. It is here I would build my capital, that will in time come to be the capital of all of Honshu. I will build walls tall and thick to protect this blossom and this village, and I will send armies throughout the island to defeat the gaijin. Then the beauty of this place will be safe."

And so Yamato ordered that the small village of Kyoto be transformed into a great capital city. He had the ingredients needed for greatness: fertile land, a water source, stone for building, and bronze for weapons, and an industrious population. "Yes", Yamato thought, "I will build here the great capital of a great empire."

Orders:
-Expand in all directions.
-Try to incorporate peaceful tribes by diplomacy, but use military to subdue all hostile tribes.
-Expand the capital city of Kyoto. Build a large stone palace for the Shogun. Build an Animist temple, a marketplace (increase economy), a public park/botanical garden, and homes for the population. Build a large stone wall to enclose the city and its farms. Garrison the walls with archers, with spearmen guarding the city gates and light mechanical artillery (small, simple catapults and siege crossbows) emplaced along the wall.

That may be so, but Buddhisim didn't start until around 600 bce. also hinduism didn't evolve until 2000 bce. perhaps an Indian Polytheism could evolve into hinduism later? Then again why does an nes have to be historicly accurate
