About stone skin spell...im still unclear about it..I know it blocks 3 hits..but does it block three hits on only that unit or any 3 hits on the entire stack of units?

Also does it block any types of 3 hits or just phys damage?

if it only blocks 3 hits on that unit, the game needs badly spells to protect from hits on multiple units (colateral damage) in a stack.

And if it only does blocks 3 phys hits than we need spells to block magical damage types (NOT for a single unit the magical res and specific res like fire res promotions do that job for a single unit) of colateral damage on mulitple units in a stack

Actual combat is a series of attacks between the attacker and defender. It isn't just a simple percentage chance (which is what makes the simple percentage chance so hard to calculate). Its based on a number of combat rounds, the attacker and defender have a chance to win the round and it they do they damage their opponent. These rounds continue until one fo the units is out of hit points.

Stoneskin protects against 3 of the hits that happen in that combat. So the first 3 times that the other unit wins the combat round it won't do any damage to the stoneskined unit. On the 3rd time the stoneskin promotion is removed and everything is returned to normal.

Its strongest game effect is that it protects strong units from lucky weaker units (and usually remains to help out in later battles). It can also swing battles between equal units but it really doesnt help much in a units battle against a stronger unit.

ah ok thanks kael

if i understand it, the stone skin spell blocks three "hits" in the combat rounds of that single unit's single battle, not 3 separate attacks by units or spells (so it kinda is in a way like or similiar to first strikes). It does NOT block against 3 battles-attacks by units/spell. it blocks against 3 hits WITHIN a single battle calculation. alright thanks..for some reason I thought it blocked against 3 battles from mulitiple units/spells attacking.

if i understand it corectly, the simpliest way to explain stone skin is its good for a single 1v1 battle: between A unit/spell attacking the stone skin unit.

The stone skin spell:

axemen vs warrior= axmen wins but is damaged
stone skined axemen vs warrior=axemen wins but is UNdamaged

last question about stone skin:

do the UNused blocks carry over to the next battle calculation with another unit attacking u, until all 3 blocks are used up or the spell goes away (next turn)?? Or does the spell only apply to that single combat calculation and doesnt carry over into the next battle calculation with another unit attacking u?

NVM...my bad again..i just read your 2nd paragraph, first line: "Stoneskin protects against 3 of the hits that happen IN THAT COMBAT." So I guess it doesn't carry over:D

Yeah, its closest to compare to first strikes.

I feel it helps a lot. Against really tough units, like Acheron, stone skin can make your poor cannon fodder that much more likely to damage the target, which is all you can ask of them.

I love this spell - I feel it is one of the most powerful in the game...

As for the combat odds, Kael, would you like for them to account for stone skin? I've got the math to do it, I just don't know how Civ makes those numbers. Is it SDK or Python?

Further question, about stoneskin spell:
Does it end, when the unit received 3 hits/avoided hits in combat(this i get from the in game description) or does it end after the first combat(this i have from multiple tries defeating Archeron with warriors)?

E.g.
First combat, first 3 rounds, enemy hits once, this damage has no effect, enemy hits again once after first 3 rounds, so 2 hits in entire combat. Is stone skin still active or not?

It's SDK, but so is the stone skin code.

Kael recently changed the spell so that it doesn't automatically end after the first combat. I believe you need a full three hits in any one combat for the spell to disappear. This means you can go through 10 combats getting hit once in each one and still retain the protection of the spell.
