I don't want them to cut down a forest to create a farm but if there is copper under a forest will they leave that forest too or do they make an exception for resources?

Thanks.

There's a setting in the options menu that forces automated workers to never cut forests. They won't make an exception for resources, but that's a good thing - the only resources (as far as I recall) that can spawn in forests on normal maps is Fur and Deer, which require a Camp, which can be build on top of a forest (or jungle, though the latter will still give a tile -1:food:, making it better to chop it down).

But best not to automate workers. The AI sucks. (Near the end of the game when there's not much left for workers to do, I may start putting them on automatically create trade network--they only build roads/railroads under that setting.)

yeah..but it applies to non-automated workers too if you set them to the task of chopping a forest

edit: I think that may be a BUG thing though....
