Strange City State Mechanic

Or maybe i am missing something? Here is what happened:

Playing to achieve Diplomatic victory as King Alexander. Turn 194. 1 turn before UN election. 9 out of 10 CS's are my allies, so naturally, i decided to make Lhasa (#10) my ally too and DoW everyone else, so no Coup would happen between this turn and the next one. I ally Lhasa and DoW Darius. Lhasa declares war on me instantly, giving Darius 180 or something influence..

The strange thing is: Lhasa was Oda's ally at the time i took it over, not even Darius's

Thoughts?

P.S.: Not sure if it's a bug, so i placed this in general section. Saves attached.

I allied Lhasa, DoW'ed Darius, Lhasa DoW's me back. All inside the same turn.

Seriously though, they Dow'd you right when you ended the turn?Did you only have just enough influence to be their ally?If that was the case, maybe you quickly lost enough influence to be their ally and then Persia did something to gain influence.

Just a theory, though.Maybe it's just a bug.

No, i didn't press next turn. I threw 1k at them (Oda had 69 influence), Declared on Darius and voila, treacherous little Lhasa reveals itself .

Well, I don't really know what happened then.

The only thing that came into my mind: I declared about 7-8 wars during the game, so i could milk AI for cash, you know. So, maybe Lhasa was fed up with this tactic finally.. Reloading @ turn 194 gives the same effect every time.

I loaded your save file from turn 194 and can't reproduce your problem. As soon as the file opens I DoW Darius. After doing so, Darius' ally Vatican City DoWs me. My 10 CSs, including Lhasa, DoW Darius. I end the turn and then we have an election. I win a diplomatic victory with 10 votes. Played the save twice with the same result both times. Are you running any mods?

Oops. Just rechecked. It's Vatican that causes the problem. Sorry for misleading. No, i don't run any mods.

Don't remember if Vatican is allied at that point, but try allying it and DoW'ing Darius.

You have met 10 CS so far. Vatican is not one of them. When you DoW Darius, they declare on you as his ally. There's no way for you to ally them first, since you've never met.

And you are right. Somehow i assumed Vatican was there.. Too much CiV for me today obviously. Thanks for clarifying this mystery for me .
