strange happening

ill make this short.
installed civ 4, worked perfectly
installed update V.1.61 (or something, the latest one)
no longer works, i lose my python, and when i try to lay a game, error message pops up

specs.

vista 64 bit system (has worked on this before)
new smasung monitor, problems occured when i put this in
proformance of 3.5 (for vista users)

i think it's installed in the wrong location, anybody that knows how to help, please do, i've spent hours upon hours trying to fix this with no avail

are you sure it is 1.61 and not 1.74?
If it is the latter you also need the newest Directx9c from microsoft for it to work.
If not could you post what error message?

yeah, its 1.61, i can still check the buld model

error message? something like "windows has encountered a problem and is finding a solution" then a few seconds later "windows has not found a solution"

i think its the path of the patch... any vista users now where (and how) to put it?

as far as drivers go, i have no clue, nor any clue how to check them.

did you try installing 1.74?

no, if 1.6 wasnt working i didn't think 1.74 could do anything.

1.74 does come with everything you need to patch from 1.00 to 1.74 so it also has a chance to come with whatever is not working for you. If that is not the case one can try working from there - but its no use to try troubleshooting without exhausting the patches that are already available.
Note: if you install 1.74 you also need to obtain the June or August 2007 release of DirectX9c from Microsoft.

Yes and here - you need the DirectX linked from there as well
