STRANGE Turn Pausing (but not in multiplayer)

I dunno what's going on, Civ III, before patches, after patches, before expansion, after expansion suffers from incredibly long wait times between turns. My computer does NOTHING during this time. There's no thinking going on, no lights, no sounds from the comp, just the music keeps playing and I have to wait at the end of every turn for 2-15 minutes. It happens EVERY turn.

For some reason when I play multiplayer I have no trouble at all, even when I host.

Any suggestions?

Although I had never seen noticeable single player lag until last night, playing the Ottomans on Regent level, Large map. For some reason, once I hit 1786AD, with almost all the world explored, and lots of units roaming around between me and 3 other Civs, the game just started lagging. Not even in between turns though. The whole game was just constantly laggy. It took about 1 minute to highlight, click, and exit the game. EVERYTHING was laggy. I'm thinking PTW, with its pathetic excuse for Multiplayer connectivity, AND increased bugginess in Single player, deserves me a refund. Infogrames really shouldn't include that crappy copy protection software, and they shouldn't rush the development team at Firaxis. Firaxis has got GREAT people, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that Infogrames is nothing more than a greedy corporate whore for the RIAA/MPAA/whatever the new video gaming industries 'association' of companies will end up being that will stifle creativity in video gaming.

It's no wonder Audio and Video markets in the US are being quickly overrun by the Video Game market! There's been more creativity in the Video Game market than in Audio and Video markets combined over the last ten years!!! Sorry, my rant is over now.

This isn't laggyness though. This is unexplainable idling. Infogrames has stopped responding to my emails.

lol no. He said that I need to upgrade my drivers. I have upgraded to the latest win2k ver for the nVidia. My mobo is an integrated POS though. I dunno if I can find all the drivers for everything. I've installed everything that microsoft said to on the updates site.
