Has anyone done any experiments to see if playing in strategic view produces less lag than the regular view?

Yes many players have reported that strat view is much less demanding on computers and is the only way people with lower end computers can even play Civ5.

I'm not sure if it specifically transmits less data in MP games to other players, but it certainly will help with lag created by low end computers not being able to process game data on time. Which in many games starts happening around turn 30-40 as some peoples computers start ckoking on the added units and tiles etc.

From what I have read, the strategic view does help with lag between turns. I have a computer that smokes the system requirements, but I still get severe lag between turns. I have heard that the amount of the map that you have opened has an effect though. I haven't bothered to test it though.
