Strategies for Earth and Europe Maps Online

Hey all, I am wondering what sort of plans you guys have for Earth and Europe starts. Personally, I like going for a specialist economy with Germ on Europe. It works really well with the Germs (Philosophy) and works well with the nearby land (there is a ton of food). Also, it's pretty much a given that Rome is coming after you so you have to pump axeman right away. I usually go agriculture, animal husbandry, bronze working all the while building to a three city base, one library(in the city just to the left of Berlin) and straight axeman from there until you can tell on the power graph that you are safe.

Anyone else got any good starting plans that they usually go for?

Depends how fast the other players are declaring war. If they are warmongers early game, I shift to 100% military.

Yeah if you are declared on then, absolutely 100% military. I find that you usually have to prepare for it if Romans are near and with Rome right below you, it's coming. On the Europe map Germany has the best land if you can settle one city to the left of Berlin, one to the bottom left and one underneath you can get a food and production advantage fairly early on. I find that good Roman players almost always gear up for war early on (beware when you see them switch to slavery and 10 or so turns later their power graph starts to go up). If Rome comes at you with even 3 preats before you have a good supply of Axeman(3-4) it's gg, because they can cut off your copper.

Very true, Most Earth and Europe games, Rome, Greece, and Germany always seem to be warmongers. BTW, Your name looks very familar, did I play with you recently online?

It is quite likely, I won a Europe game with Germany just last night. By the end of the game, I was able to produce about 6-7 inf a turn (my main opponent had grenadiers) and was discovering a tech either every turn or every other turn (I had just gotten combustion in 2 turns). Do you have any favorite strategies that you usually use?

I can't really say so. Most of the time im dead way before gunpowder units. However, I tend to be decent early game. My favorite thing to do is to rush to the oracle(if I have marble) to slingshot my way up to feudilism. That way, I'm the only one with longbowman for a while. After the others catch up, I tend to get my ass kicked. Go figure I guess.
