I have just recently started out on plaing this game after finding it on a relatives hard drive. I believe I am doing fairly well, for a beginner. And just wanted to know if someone has certain strategies to help me during the game. Sometimes when I start a new game I get no research for the whole game, I have to capture peoples cities.

Yours Sincerely Govorden

You should be getting scientific advances. When you start the game, set the science rate as high as you dare. Build as many cities as possible and build them in good spots like on grassland next to water. Keep civil unrest at bay by keeping population of each city down for a while by building settlers until your land mass has enough cities. Build roads on all city squares. Build a road on a square before irrigating or mining it. Switch to Monarchy as soon as you get it. That's a start.

Also don't let other civs develop on your continent. Because they'll grow, get militant, and then become dangerous.
