Strategy Challenge startup/ SC #1 Pre-challenge discussion

Is there a difference of opinion? Cabert asked for no industrious. It's a fair request. He even said please. Thread starter just pick another leader.

I'll just play this one. Betafor, Lynxx , ... you're up

Well, here are the leader propositions:
- mice: random leader, not Isabella
- cabert: spiritual leader (with preference for Saladin), or HC, not industrious
- pigswill: not industrious, not philo; preference for Toku or Julius
- Betafor: preference for Elizabeth
- me: I like Toku, but can go with any of the choices :)

I don't think I missed any. If we'll go for a non-something or a something leader, we might as well choose him from the start instead of restarting until we get that trait.

exactly my opinion

a culture challenge with Toku is going to be a real challenge
But he isn't industrious, so it's OK for me.
Lizzy is good too, but is philo ( = :nono: for pigswill?)

There is no poll, so it's not a vote here, but if it's toku, i won't be sad.
Will let me feel the real value (hammers, GPP) of all those cultural things i do;)

If you're leaving the deadline at 1600AD, I think Toku sounds like a good choice as he's not a leader people normally associate with a cultural strategy.

Plus, if any "Taoist in Tokyo" challenge is going to be about the diplomacy of buddying-up to Toku, it makes sense to play as him in one of the other challenges.

If cabert wants a spiritual leader what about Monte? Again not someone you automatically equate with cultural victory.

i think it's up to lynxx (or betafor?), but it's easier to chose one than restarting 33 times. Don't bother for me pigswill, i'm not even sure i can play the game

toku is good enough for me.

REally, if i can't have Lizzy, I don't really care :P

Lyynx, as the winner of the previous thread, you have the option to create the next one - if you don't want to, or don't reply by friday at 5 PM(EST = GMT -5) I'll create the game.

The game will last as requested from Friday/thursday to the Second sunday after the start. Then, the pre-challenge discussion will be up again, we can discuss what went wrong, what went right, and what to do for the next challenge.

My only concern is if we start on a friday and end on a sunday, that's a whole wasted week! I seriously doubt we are going to spend a week in the prechallenge discussion! But -I say we deal with it afterwards-

So, now, Lancelot and I jump out of the large wooden rabbit...

I would ofcourse be honoured to set up a challange. I am however a bit pressed for time right now and wouldnt be able to play through the challange before posting it here. If that is important then its better if betafor starts this challange up. Otherwise I could post a save here tonight(7-8 hours form now) with Toku, continents, standard size, prince/monarch? and random opponents. How does that sound? Should I turn of all victories so that you wont finish the game early by mistake?

By the way, if i want to have some nice pictures of the start do i have to upload it to imageshack(or what its called) first to get the nice big pictures seen in most threads around here?

I dont think playing through it is necessary - in the very low % chance that we get an "odd" start, it'll just be part of the challenge

To take a screenshot, press printscreen(prt scr)(on a standard desktop keyboard its above the insert key near home, delete, end, pageup, pagedown, if you have a non-standard or compressed keyboard it may be somewhere farther up top.

Then, open microsoft paint, and press Control-V. Go to save as, name the pic, and save in JPG format(selections below name entry). This is not always needed, it has slightly less quality(little differanc i think), but you're pretty much garunteed not to exceed the maximum bandwith of any hosting site.

Go to www.imagshack.us and browse for the file, and host it, look at the bottom for the entry that has the tag in front of it, copy that and paste on the boards.

Viola!

Yes you're right. This needs tweaking. Maybe 1 weekend is enough for the challenge, not two. How about a 7 day challenge, doesn't matter what day it starts . Then a 2-3 days discusion about the next one?

Lynxx, I'd say turn on locked assets, but dont worry about the victory conditions. The AI isnt going to win by 1600, and if the player does, it's thier mistake.

does it really matter that the first one is over before discussing the next?

I'd say another challenge every week, from friday until next sunday, leaving the week to discuss the previous AND the next, but not too much about the current one

I must say i do not know if i turned on locked assets or not. Is it a must? I have already started up a game and played it for a few turns to check it out and I am ready to post it here. I could ofcourse restart the game and make sure locked assets are on...
