Hi....

Myself and a freind are playing muliplayer, and for some reason I am on pop 14 and growing, but he cant get past it... he is a seasoned player but is stumped and I am a newbie.. ( Civ II player finally getting with the times).

Please help fast as the Comps are all warring with us for no reason!!

He needs more food. Tell him to go into city screen and change the worked tiles to emphasize food.

He Says that he has done that... the bar is full and the extra food is there... apperntly it's been like that for 5 or so turns.

Is there somthing that has to be built for you to go over 11 pop?

Is he building a settler or worker in that city? Cities don't grow while building these units as the excess food goes to production.

There is also the "avoid growth" button that he might have pressed by mistake.

He probably clicked the Governor button to avoid growth (the lower right button).

I've started using the 'avoid growth' button. I don't like having usless unhappy people, so I'll avoid growth when the city gets to the max happiness.

But I have to be vigilant about watching for when I hook up a new luxury or get a trade or build a happiness building, so I can remember to turn off avoid growth until I hit my new maximum.

That depends. In the original game, Avoid Growth just micromanages your tiles so you get the least food. In Warlords, the food bar will not move at all no matter how many surplus food is there.

I wish that there was an obvious signal to tell you when a city is avoiding growth, one time I noticed that my floodplain loaded CAPITOL was at size 8 during the Rennaissance. I avoid thiat button now...

Either of these things :
- he's short on food for some reason (war is a good reason! when there is an enemy unit on a land tile you own, you can't work the tile. On sea it's even worse. You cannot work any tile adjacent on a tile with an enemy boat). Mousing over the food bar in the city screen should tell you more.
- he is building a worker or a settler (uses up all food surplus at the value of 1 food for 1 hammer)
- he pressed the avoid growth button

No other thing can happen.
Solutions are :
-tile reassignement
-tile improvement (farms/windmills/watermills under state property provide food)
-killing the enemy units preventing work of food tiles, then rearrangement
-health improvement (if the city is unhealthy = green faces), by trading for ressources, connecting them, building health buildings or cutting away jungle
-happiness improvement (if the city is unhappy = red faces) by trading for ressources, connecting them, building happiness buildings, stopping a war, moving up the culture slider
-pressing away the no growth button
- building something else (no worker no settler)

Thanks for the helpful info guys!

Turns out it was the Avoid Growth button!!.

We are going to to wipe out Washinton. with your help!
