Stupid Icons won't go away

For some strange reason when I started my computer up today I had some new icons on my desktop. I didn't install anything new, and I have no idea how they got there. Normally this wouldn't be a big problem, as I can just delete them, but for some strange reason they just won't delete. I right-click on them and no menu appears, I select them and hit the delete key and nothing happens.

It's something with just these couple of Icons, because the other ones (the ones I want on my computer) I can still delete fine.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Also, incase it helps. Heres a screenshot of some of them:

Might be adware. I wouldn't know how to remove them, however.

The screen shot does help. They are nothing to be really worried about. They are links to the web and are not actuall exe shortcuts. Just delete them.

It may be something more serious than a few harmless icons that just appear on your computer to befriend you... ;)

Why do you want to get rid of them they look fun.

Yeah, it would be no problem if I actually could delete them. It won't let me though.

Also I've ran my Adware program, and it didn't detect any of them as a type of adware.

Have you tried opening any of them?
Or manually dragging them to the recycle bin, or any other folder for that matter?

Woah. You need to check your system's security. If they can put extra files on your system, what's stopping them to read/remove/infect your files?

A few thoughts as to how to remove them:

1. Right click on the icons. Select properties. Click on General tab. It should tell you where the shortcut is in the "location" entry. Go there and delete them... you might need administrator permission to do so.

2. They could be added in registry instead of files. I have no idea where such registry entries can go right now though.

EDIT: Try the above as a user with administrator rights. If still no menu on right-click, then they're probably added via registry.

All of them are links to the internet, and I've tried every way I can think of to get rid of the things. I've tried dragging them to the recycle bin (they won't move at all), and anything else. I already have the adminstrator rights, so yes I've tried that also.

No idea where the registry of files might be.

Try going to Add/Remove programs (start->control panel). You might be able to remove them there. There'll often be some fishy-sounding filename, like "1000downloads.com", "freetravel4u.exe" or "adserver.exe". (some of those were made up)

I tried that also, nothing "fishy" on there.

Then you might want see what properties these files have. They might be read only which can make it impossible to delete them. Safe mode is your best bet.

If you right click them what happens? Try the deleting the Temporary Internet Files in the folder.

That won't help. These are not linked with the folder. They arte DL onto your desktop. I have dealt with these many times before. I have always been able to delete them.

I'm sorry to see that, Strider. The exact same thing has happened to me.

I just tried going into safe mod (as both the admin and my normal user name). The icons didn't show up, there just not there.

There all links to differant sites on the internet. Don't seem to dangerous, but I hate seeing them on there.
