(basicly this is a copy/paste from my reply to a previous thread were I thought I had found someone with a similar.)

I run the civ4.exe (via shortcut or not) and it geta my computer working a bit, then it dies. And basicly windows kills it and gives you that error, not sure what it's called in english but you get it everytime you kill a program via ctrl+alt+del as well =P (then I mean program and not system process) I encounter this problem with all versions of civ 4, including warlords, obviously this is a HUGE problem since it makes me unable to play the game AT ALL. A key thing was that I've been playing the game just fine for aeons, then about a week after installing warlords this happens.

I suspect something is wrong with my windows =( It's no secret that a few little edits to anything which concerns windows to lead to the strangest things happen =P, however I'm not in the mood to reformat just because one game refuses to run. (And it would be annoying to format and THEN realize that this was not the problem.)

As you may see, I have 3 posts at this moment, and I hate going to a forum just for help and not it's community. But i'm just desperate.
I can't find out what the problem is, nor it's cause.

Try to reinstall civ4 and warlords. Try a system restore for windows if you think you tweaked it too much.

Done it countless times, tried all versions, with or without warlords.
And system restore has never functioned propperly to me =L
So theres a problem!

OK. So basically the game crashes on startup (?). You should enable logging: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_logging.htm and post the file init.log. Let's see if that helps us. The best version for trouble shooting would be probably civ4 v 1.61.

Please give us also some details about your computer, CPU, RAM, graphics card, and maybe OS.

I'm currently playing it on my old box, which is 512 ram and 32mb graphics card with a 1.6 ghz processor and that works just fine (though a little slow..) And I do think having something like 4 FPS in the long run will give me one very bad headache.

this one is 1024 ram, radeon x700 and amd 1800, its windows XP with sp2... I don't see how this is of any importance as it's been running fine before.
I got a friend with the same problem though, but I think the reason is something nasty I catched while surfing through the intarwebs.
So, I want to know which, if any, commonly known programs or processes theres out there that MAY inferfer?
The only change I noticed lately is that I got a process called ms.exe on start up. I dunno.
It's an oldskool trojan, I think.
