Suggest awesome mods, particularly religion / wonder building mods?

If anyone would like to suggest a mod or two that they find to be awesome, it'd be appreciated. Now, I'm going to ramble a little about some specifics:

Me and my friend enjoy playing Civ IV together from time to time, but we get hung up on building wonders like idiots, so we get saddened when someone else completes a wonder and we lose all that time and effort.

So, if anyone could suggest something that changes how wonder building works, that'd be appreciated. Though in hindsight, I suppose the amount of gold you get directly equals how much gold your city would have produced? So maybe a tweak giving you more gold would be amiss... but maybe a mod that lets you build something instead, so you haven't wasted time?

I saw a mod that changes the Industrial? attribute so that it does something besides reducing wonder build time (+1 hammer in 3 hammer squares), so maybe that'd make us less focused on wonder building, since it would no longer be so crazy easy with the appropriate resources and Industrial, and so there'd be much less incentive to build wonders, but I'm curious if there are other options out there. Of course, we could also make "Industrial" leaders off limits.

I'd also like something that makes religion or culture feel a bit more... competitive, maybe? Maybe it is and I don't know it, but if it's perceived to be 'too weak', maybe someone could point me to a mod that makes it better?

Thanks.

Well, perhaps not exactly what you want but for a complete modpack I would suggest Thomas' War only since you really like making wonders and among the things included in that mod (which is multiplayer compatible) are some really really cool new wonders... just check out his wonder gallery where he released most of them all separately. Its also one of the most balanced modpacks out there and adds a religious victory, inquisitor units and additional religions for your religion fix and makes cultural victories harder to achieve.

If you're looking for individual modcomps to mix and match and make your own...

For additional wonders the before mentioned tsentom1's wonder gallery, as well as Gir's python wonders.

For religion JustATourists Just Another Religion Mod and Orion's Inquisition Mod.

I don't really know of anything that does specifically what you were asking, that is changes the production of wonders, sorry. I suggested the more wonders options as, well, you don't feel as sad when you miss a wonder if there are a ton more awesome wonders left to choose from. Thomas' War also has several new original traits though, so that might distract you from the wonder rush.

I forget who made it but there's an "Idle Process" mod that's floating around the forums which is a good add as well, as it lets you store production if you use it properly until you're ready to build a wonder.

I can just give you and your friend a advice: Perhaps try from time to time to agree to additional rules for a game (rules you can't set in Civ directly). For example agree to build no or no more than three or four wonders yourself, or allways have war with at least one AI civ, so you are encuraged to play a game as a warmonger and capture wonders, hoping to win by domination or conquest. Those games where you are in war trough the whole game are quite funny too, and they play completly different than cultural-peacefull games. Or for example agree to set science output to a maximum of 50 or 60%, so you won't be able to catch up with AI research, so you are forced to steal technologie with spies or again by conquering foreign cities.

right now I'm hooked on that History of The 3 Kingdoms Mod. It pretty much changes everything about civ4, focused on what else but the 3 kingdoms period in ancient China. Tons of new wonders, new game features, all new religions, new traits, AI tweaks ect. ect....

Its a really good mod.

Responding to the first post about wonders: have a national wonder that is a prerequisite for the world wonder and has lesser effects. The world wonder costs 1 hammer. So, the Mayans and Aztecs and Chinese and Egyptians all start the National Pyramid wonder. The Egyptians get it first and the following turn get the Great Pyramid wonder. The others are stuck with just the little one.

An interesting idea, Tholish. Though currently me and my friend are trying out Fall from Heaven 2.

Picking up the suggestions thing he's saying; I'd suggest a mod that is set during the cold war times - a mixture of the Cold War scenarion of Rise of Nation: Thrones and Patriots and the World At War mod.

Story

This is a mod that tells the story of the Cold War. The scenario will start at the beginning of 1945 and end in the middle of 1991. Like the World at War mod, it would either have a free play where you could play and change the course of history, accurate mode and semi-accurate mode. Much like the WaW and Desert Scenario, it will be littered with messages, explained below. There are of course, different starting points: Europe, USA and Africa 1945, Asia and Middle East 1945, Asia and Middle East 1953, Europe, USA and Africa 1957, Asia and the Middle East 1960, Europe, USA and Africa 1960, Europe and USA 1974

Civilizations - Leaders

USSR - Josef Stalin if you start in 1945, Nikita Kruschev if you start in 1957, Leonid Brezhnev (later Mikhail Gorbachev, then Boris Yeltsin) if you start in 1974
USA - Roosevelt (later Truman) if you start in 1945, Dwight D. Eisenhower if you start in 1957, John F. Kennedy (later Lyndon Johnson) if you start in 1960, Richard Nixon (later Ford, then Carter and Reagan) if you start in 1974
Cuba - Fidel Castro (only available in Europe, USA and Africa 1960 or if you reach 1960 in the earlier mods)
Argentina - Che Guevara (only available in Europe and USA 1974 or if you reach 1974 in the earlier mods)
UK - Churchill (then Atlee) if you start in 1945, Harold Wilson if you start in 1960, Margaret Thatcher if you start in 1974 (yea, chronologically inaccurate as she came to power '79)
China - Mao Zedong if you start in 1945, Hua Gofeng if you start in 1974 (again, historically inaccurate as he came into power in '76)
Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh if you start in 1945 - country spilts into 2 from 1960 so therefore only South is available - Ngo Dinh Diem from 1960 or 1974 (either one is OK)
Iran - Ayatollah Khemoni (only available in 1974 start)
Iraq - Saddam Hussein (again as Iran)
Egypt - Anwar El-Sadat (same as Iran)
Germany - Adenaur if you start in 1974
All the others: Burma, Albania, Germany, France, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Poland, Ireland, Romania, Czechoslovakia (splits into 2 near the end of the scenario), India, Indonesia, etc. are minor civilizations.

Try Thomas' War by tsentom1 or Extra by Chiyu.;)

Build less wonders; build units and capture them.

Also, several mods have more wonders and some have more religions, see the above posts.

I think there should be a new mod making a and realistic version with a complete overhaul of religion.
Make it so, for an example if the Indians discover Polytheism they get Hinduism in one of their cities, but if the Greeks discover it they get the Greek Mythology/Olympic Pantheon.
Or the Romans discover Theology and they get the original Christianity and spread it around a bit. Then they discover some over tech and they get an option (kind of like a random event) to change their whole religion to Catholicism (which gets rid of the most of the old Christianity and replaces it with Catholicism), stay with the original Christianity (which means some Catholicism comes into their cities, but no old Christianity leaves) or say they don't really care (which is a mixture of the above).
Say they choose to change to Catholicism and spread it around a bit. Then some other civ such as England (that is Catholic) discovers the Printing Press (or something more approriate) and gets an option to change to Protestantism.

I think this would add a lot of depth to the game and extend it from the simple original version. I'm not very experienced in modding so I would be very happy if someone else could try to make this.
Thanks
