Preferably something not larger than 15.000 words - ie a short story.

I only have come in contact with his works through a spanish horror movie - iirc one from 2008.

I dont know if it was based on a short story but I recently saw The Babadook... It was somewhat scary but it was sad and depressing. The actress and child actor were good though, especially the mother.
