I have been playing at Noble level for the past couple of months, and am having great difficulty finding a strategy that will succeeed with sufficient success that I will feel comfortable moving to the next level (Prince?). Currently I manage 1 win every 3 games.

Generally I play with 8 Civ's, and have the most success playing either Liz or Vicky. Barbarians are turned off (Wimp! I know, but they are too distracting while trying to work out tactics). I start building a Warrior so that I have two exploring the terrain. I hold off on a Worker until I have Agriculture. Once I get to a population of 3 or more, I start pumping out Settlers. This is interrupted by the Oracle if possible.

Research starts with Mysticism, then hopefully score one of the two early religions. Agriculture next, followed by Copper (especially if there are lots of trees along the river). Then Priesthood (if still available) to try to score the free tech. Depending on the resources in range, Wheel or Animal Husbandry, then Hunting and Archery. If I get a free tech, I go after the Forge. Once they are done, it's on to Writing, Mathematics, Currency and the Alphabet. Then I start trying to swap for other tech's and cash.

My problems seem to start as we reach the mid-game. If I focus on building troops, I quickly run out of money and fall behind on tech; if I focus on infrastructure, one of the agressive or expansionist Civ's kick my butt.

So where am I going wrong?
