I always like the idea that with all supplies such as Iron, Coal etc that you have a certain production from the mines each turn rather than they just sometimes run out at random. What i mean by this is you can create a stockpile of the goods in question as a reserve for what you may want to build at a later date or in another city that does not have the resourse. They also become a lot more tradeble. Rather than simply trading iron with someone you can choose to trade x units of iron.
 
Ermm im being dumb here i just cant figure out what you mean by RTS ?

Like when in starcraft you gather cristal (it is the only one I remenber!)
 
Duh of course. Hmm not thought of it like that before. Might be ok for turnless mode on multiplayer but what i was think was lets use an iron mine as example. Lets just say it produces 10 iron a turn. This in turn may be used to build certain units or buildings (as well as a shield cost), some could be stored for later use and the rest traded away for cash or some over resourse in which you are lacking etc.
