Tanks no more cause collateral damage on 3.17

i got so mad today cos i didn't realized that!

i have the best game ever on Prince, marathon,

my vassals are Tokugwaw and Monty :) and I got attacked by Charlemagne. he is on the same continent and we never were at war until 1900's. first war was quick, but about 30 years later he attacked me again with Izabella (no wonder) and Bismark ( :) ). i was two turns from Industrialism so I figured that this time i will punish him big time. he had plenty of AntiTanks, SAM and Artillery. next thing I know, I loose 3 cities closest to our boarder :( my tanks were no match against his AT and were not causing any CD. in a process I lost all of my Infantry and Charlemagne had had open doors to all my cities. I was doomed :(

so first time ever I reloaded... I know I did bad thing, but there was no way I could let him win because of my little knowledge of 3.17.

anyway, I have to see what to do with tanks right now. I used to put as much CD as I could, but now I will have to refigure.

P.S. Charlemagne was still "pleased" with me after starting a war with me. this is weird! this has never happened to me before. anyone?

You have BTS? IIRC in BTS you can't get things like blitz/commando/etc before military science. Also, IIRC phants only upgrade to cuirassers or cavalry, not knights.

Yes, I was saving them for Military Science > Blitz. I can't recall whether Knight upgrades are or were allowed for Ellies - I just recall having my dreams of Blitz Cavalry shattered post-MilSci

I believe Flanking no longer works for units attacking across a river or Amphibious in the 3.17 patch I think... or was it an older patch?

Why is the reason for no Flanking under those circumstances??? I never considered it overpowered... Maybe it's to prevent the Sirian Doctrine where you would conquer cities using an Amphibious assault using Siege but since Siege units can no longer attack from a ship, people would use flanking units instead so they also removed that too :S...
