Target date for starting DG7 - Aug 1?

In the past several games we have had starting dates set by the moderators. Some people were unhappy with that situation, to which the response was essentially "if you set a date and worked toward it then we wouldn't need to force the issue".

I don't want to see this happen again, so I would like to officially propose August 1st as the starting date. If there is any serious reason why we can't, with this much warning, be ready by then, please raise it to our attention now. I'm also interested in comments both in favor of and against (if any) this proposed date.

It depends... If we do a Multi Team Game for the DG, then we might need longer to prepare...

July 5th -> July 12th -- decide on settings, variants, poll them
July 12th -> 24th -- write constitution, discuss issues with constitution, poll it
July 25th -> 27th -- nominations
July 28th -> 30th -- elections
July 31st -- off day
August 1st -- start

I think that is very plausible, and a good idea.

August 1st sounds good to me that calender is really good and i really think a Multi Team Game would be a good idea a nice change

I agree with that proposal DaveShack. I second the motion for opening DGVII on August 1st with elected officals and the works done by then.

one thing is , we should have a set time table. because come August the 1st, we don't want to have just start with a half finished constitution.

sounds good, but don't start the game on August 1st if our constitution isn't finished. when we start, it should be when we are ready, not a set date. if we are ready, then August 1st is fine.

I think we should treat August 1st as a goal, not a deadline...
We can try to finish by then, but if we arn't gonna make it we need to postpone another month

So far we have general support for Aug 1st as a target, but also a lot of people saying not to start unless we're actually ready.

If you really don't think we can be ready, then propose a date when we can be ready. I'm gonna take a guess that Sept 1 would be the latest target which would be accepted.

As long as the mods don't go putting a start date in the broadcast announcements, tailoring the real start date to actual readieness remains doable. Here's a simple request though -- if you're concerned about not being ready on time, act now to work towards being ready so we have justification (having put in a good effort) to not start if we're not ready. If the past repeats itself and we don't make progress on being ready, then this attempt to set our own date will fail and we'll get the same ultimatum we have received in the past.

Aug 1st should be the targeted date even though i don't think we will be completely ready unless we all work hard as hell

Since I am not going to have the time to move the target either way, I'm staying out of it. Unless we get some surprise decree from left field that doens't reflect our current progress; then I may say something.
