I,m just wondering if there is a limit to the amount of new techs that can be added.

It seems that i can only add five new techs without the old ones crashing when i click on them or try to research them. And to get the new ones to work, i have to dele some of the old ones (which i don,t want to do).

And if there is no limit, what is the best way to install new techs.

I haven,t been using MultiTool, but i have been entering the correct pedia txt. and pediaicons txt. then adding them with the editor.

But i would like to add more than 5 new techs. Any help would be great.

every time you add a new tech you have to use one less civilopedia icon. in the beginning, Writing uses icon number 82. If you hadd one new tech, writing needs to be bumped below 82, change it to 81 for instance. Nothing can use icon number 82 now. If you add two techs, nothing can use icon number 82 or icon 81. If you add three techs, nothing can use icon 82, 81, or 80. And so on. I don't know anyone that has added 83 techs to see what happens then. I've added 40+ and the above steps are how you get them working. I think Kal-El decided to use 5 for his 40 or so techs. Governments got one type of icon, certain advancements got another, and so forth for about five different icons. IMO doing it that way is much easier than going through and making choosing among 40 icons for 120 techs. If you don't know what icons I'm talking about, read some faqs and walkthroughs and then you'll know.

To answer your question: I think the limit is 81 new techs in addition to existing techs. about 163 total.

Also don't forget to add diplomacy.txt entries for the new techs.

This i didn,t know about. So if i add say... 10 new techs, i can,t used more than icon #72. Screwy, but again, thanks for the info (:

Where exactly do i enter it into the diplomacy.txt ?
I,ve looked, but i can find no place that lists "techs" in any way shape or form.

pardon me, it is actually script.txt. look for

#SCIENCEADVICETECH81
We are now capable of building a computerized, comprehensive {Integrated Defense} system. Maybe we could build a shield against enemy missiles... should we try?

Is it really necessary to make this change.

I know that it will not show up in dialogue (sp) but the game, so far, doesn,t crash without these changes made.

Just a few other bugs to work out yet.

But the icon thing worked. But it,s really odd the way it works.

<----->Also, if i do change this, do i need to enter them in the same order as i entered them in my mod, or is does it get read like the civilopedia.txt and the pediaicons.txt. ie... say i,ve entered 10 new techs. if i take the last tech i entered, could i enter it as this:

#SCIENCEADVICETECH82
We are now capable of building XXXXX.

or would it have to be entered as:

#SCIENCEADVICETECH91
We are now capable of building XXXXX.

I,ll try it both ways.

But that,s the least of my problems. I can,t seem to be able to build any sea units. Not sure why, everything seems to be in it,s proper place. Again, i added them without the copy tool. But they have worked before. Strange.

I had this happen in a recent game I started. The third city I founded was by the coast and logically would have allowed me to build galleys/the colossus, but it didn't.

I restarted the game thinking maybe I had done something to the map I was playing on (i was playing on a map I made myself). But on the restart it worked fine. I've done 10 or so other trial runs in the same map and only that once did the sea units become unavailable.

I figure it was probably a corrupt process or some glitch in the game.

If your case isn't a freak accident, make sure you have the "SEA" button click on all the naval units you have added. I remember I once added a new fighter unit and forgot to set it to AIR. :P

This happens from the start of the game. But it only happens on the map (using Marla,s as a base) i,m building on (everything works fine in a random game.) Though i can build the Colossus, i can not build harbors, my additions or any sea units.

It,s almost like, water isn,t water anymore (some sort of tile change?)

I,ve restarted over 50 times, with different changes almost each time, but to no avail.

It could be a glitch. I have also added two up grades which require the harbor. Docks (requires a harbor) increases food in water. Shipyard (requires a dock) increase shields and food in water and allows you to build vetran sea unit.
