Playing FfH yesterday and I realised that, even though I was the Amurites, I was going straight down the metal line. So I had the following idea:

What if your Civ/Leader/Traits affected how much technologies cost?

So for the Amurites, the magic line'd cost less, for the Lurchirp, the engineering line, and for Perpentach, a random +-% off random techniques.
 
Its an interesting idea, but that might be considered too constrictive. Personally I would go for it.
 
I'd rather make it so that the intrinsic civ boni make it worthwile for the amurites to prioritize the arcane line instead of some arbitrary cost reduction.
 
nah, I think it's fine the way it is. civs have their strengths that you are encouraged to exploit if you play to win, but you can still do whatever you like better without being punished for it ;)
 
this'll make the games more generic and less spontanious. then the flaming will begin..."why doesnt so-and-so civ get a bonus here?" simplicity is sometimes best. and would tip the AI to be even more anooying than they already are..."Ljosafar just got archery and FoL and its only turn 35..." good luck with THAT neighbour!
 
But the idea of favored tech is nice. Like building cost for leader traits, could each civ get a discount on a tech...
