Does anyone know what Technology Cost translates to in terms of turns to research? I believe a cost of one translates to 32 turn if you only have 1 unit of research coming in... which brings me to my next question: does anyone know how much an additional unit of research decreases the number of turns?

I've made the following observations whcih may or may not be 100% correct

Technology Cost = 1
--------------------------
Research -> Turns to Complete

1->32
2->20
3->14
4->10
5->8
6->7
7->6
8->5
9->5

Technology Cost = 2
--------------------------
Research -> Turns to Complete

1->32
2->32
3->27
4->20
5->16
6->14
7->12
8->10
9->9

<EDIT>
I guess 32 turns is the maximum. Obviously there is a law of diminishing returns here, that is, the more research you have coming in, the less an additional unit of research will decrease the number of turns necessary to complete your research.
</EDIT>

OK this is just a cheap way to get this post back to the top of the forum... I apologize... I was just hoping that with the recent breakthroughs in civ3 editing, someone could now answer this question.

This is just my own observation so it is not something in stone:D

I agree with you that the max turn is 32 and I believe you can never bring the min to below 4 either.:(

So the good old days of 1 tech per turn is gone. I believe Firaxis' answer was so that no one will be too far behind in tech or getting a runaway lead. Oh well:sniper:

A few things:

Cost to research the technology is modified by the map size and how many other Civs have it already. Don't know exact numbers on the last part.

You can't take longer than 32 turns to research, unless you research it in '--' turns (which is never).

You can't research a turn in less than 4 turns. Some say you can do it in 3, but that is because they were reading the display on the bottom right, and the way it was handled they had actually already researched it for 1 turn.
